I missed that...now I see what you mean...why did she want to go to a “prayer breakfast” anyway?

“When I woke up this morning at 7:00—I was getting picked up at 7:45—Patrick, my fiancé, tried to pull me by my waist over this morning in bed, and I was like, ‘No, baby, we don’t got time for that this morning,’” said Mace at the beginning of her speech. “‘I got to get to the prayer breakfast, and I got to be on time.’” The crowd laughed as she said it was a “little TMI,” adding, “He can wait…I’ll see him later tonight.”

In response to the criticism she said this:

That day, Mace responded to the backlash on Twitter, saying, “I go to church because I’m a sinner not because I’m a saint! Glad those in attendance, including @SenatorTimScott and our pastor, took this joke in stride. Pastor Greg and I will have a little extra to talk about on Sunday now.” Later, she tweeted, “My fiancé is not upset but he did suggest I go to church twice this Sunday. See y’all at the 8:30 and the 11:30!”

Sin should not be amusing. And she apparently thought it was entirely about joking about the behavior vs. the behavior itself that people had an issue with. This is no different than putting off going to the bar and getting drunk and joking about how you put it off because you had to speak at the prayer breakfast and you would do that afterward.
