There are corollaries to John Adams’ statement that the Constitution is fit only for a moral and religious people. One is that without a generally moral and religious people, some things can’t exist in society.

One is retail stores displaying merchandise. Either the merchandise will be locked up out of sight, like the old Soviet Russian store, and a clerk will bring it to the customer after payment, or it will be internet only sales. Stores and free-roaming looters and robbers can’t co-exist.

If brick and mortar stores go away, the State will still collect sales taxes. Cities dependent on real property taxes will be worse off. They can raise their own sales taxes, but won’t that be a “regressive” tax increase? Welcome to the socialist paradise.

"Constitution is fit only for a moral and religious people."

I think that would leave out 95% of the lawyers of DC.
