Not in Pennsylvania ... just got a generic driver’s license ... needed to go through a separate process to get a Real ID compliant license, but didn’t bother.

I think it’s odd, that this Real ID law was a resoonse to 9.11. It has taken over 20 years to fully implement.

Even if for sake of argument we say Real ID is a good idea, why does any such plan take decades?

Not really. The thing with the RealID that took so long was getting all the states to finally get onto the “standard” that they set. Not sure what the delays have been since NY finally got onto the standard. I’m sure they had great excuses.

So, what is the RealID, it is an ID issued upon you verifying that you are a US citizen--social security card, birth certificate and/or passport. What's the big issue? If we are asking for photo ID to vote, shouldn't we want some integrity in that photo ID?

I want everyone to show a photo ID to vote and best if that photo ID confirms that they are legit US citizens. Further, maybe a stretch now, but the rest of the folks might be scrutinized to see if they are here illegally and, if so, deported.

"Real" ID is so stupid. If you have a birth certificate, you can get all the other documents you need to create a "real" ID.

It adds *NOTHING* to security. The only document that matters is that Birth Certificate, and once you've got that, you can get all the rest they require to get your real ID.

Just more dumbassetry from our Federal Government bureaucrats.
