The biggest difference between this and Florida in 2000 is that SCOTUS intervened because there was a hard deadline to certify the election coming up and the Florida Supreme Court was putting their thumb on the scale by allowing only the recounting of Dade, Broward, and West Palm Beach counties.
The New York case doesn't face that hard deadline to act.
