I have long sense believed that Barack Obama's father was a criminal fugitive from the Mau Mau rebellion.   The dates match.

When I was still a young impressionable kid I found and read the book, "Something of Value" about the uprising.   The atrocities on both sides were beyond belief.   The film about it with Rock Hudson and Sidney Poitier could never have shown any of that.
