I like Baez for her voice, not her politics. She does song called ‘Diamonds and Rust’ about her romance with Dylan. I can’t quite believe she wrote it, and the orchestration has the fullness of ‘Any Day Now.’
I was in England in ‘64 when Dylan and Baez toured together. My parents were fans and went out and bought every album they could find of them... so I grew up listening to both. I know Baez is a leftist and many of her songs rub me the wrong way but I just love her... I’ve seen her several times in concert and she is a very engaging person. It also should be said that when the Vietcong took over Vietnam, Baez was the loudest voice criticizing them for their persecution of the ethnic Chinese who became the ‘boat people.’
