Happy 83 birthday to the legendary Bob Dylan!

He wrote ‘Knocking on Heaven’s Door’ for Slim Pickens. Apparently he felt a great deal of affection for him when he was working on the ‘Pat Garret and Billy the Kid’ movie. Said the song just came to him and he “had to write it.”
Too many to list. A dozen favorites, no particular order:
Just Like a Woman
You Got to Serve Somebody
Lay Lady Lay
Shelter from the Storm
Rainy Day Women 12&35
Tangled Up in Blue
Forever Young
Like a Rolling Stone
Knocking on Heaven’s Door
All I Really Want to Do
When I Paint My Masterpiece
Tonight I’ll Be Staying Here With You
[and more]
That is just classic. Roger McGuinn in the lead as appropriate
What satanism? Please explain. He took a chance on tanking his career by conversion to Christ and talking about it at his concerts.
Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall.
We are living it right now.
Abe said “where do you want this killing’ done?”
The gullibility runs strong in you.
I was called pathetic celebrity worshiper when I asked for an explanation
And no explanation
In a soldier’s stance I aim my hands at the mongrel dogs who teach.
Not the best song, not even close,
BUT
“If God’s on our side He’ll stop the next war” is a contestant for best line.
And “Only a pawn in their game” has stood up pretty well.
Oh, fantastic video clip—perfect irony. Love Bill Murray. Had to search IMDB for some time to find out it was from the film St. Vincent, 2014.
And, next time you listen to “Only a pawn in their game”, listen hard to the line, “they’re lowering him down as a king” note the brief pause between the last two words in the line “as a..King”
Prediction?
Me & My Chauffeur Blues by Memphis Minnie. Oh wait, bob just stole that melody for one of his own songs.
One of my favorite Dylan covers

Agree.
He is truly a poet. One day he will be recognized with the great ones.
I'm old now. I'm starting to recognize how hard it is to recognize true genius or true greatness among one's contemporaries, because they are with us for a long time, we see their human struggles and mess ups, and to a certain extent we take them for granted. Even worse, the greater they become, the more the left denounces them. Only after time passes do you see how they stand out from the rest. I give you Bob Dylan, Queen Elizabeth, Donald Trump.
A prophet is not without honour, except in his own country, and in his own house. —Matthew 13:57
Which one?
When he dies, the USA should give him a funeral like France gave Victor Hugo.
I don’t know if you knew, or know of, Larry Auster (d 2103), but in addition to being one of the most principled and hardest right wing men ever was also a huge Dylanologist (as am I).
The further right you go, the more you understand him. People who are just “conservatives” generally struggle with it.
