Of course I drive a 61 VW...a 1998 Honda and a 1998 Ford..
You should have fixed it yourself.....That’s what I have done my whole life.
But about fixing it myself, I built a 30x60 shop building in early 2020 for exactly that. The first “serious” repair I did was in 1970 as a junior in High school when I rebuilt the manual transmission on my 1963 Rambler Classic. I’ve had 38 cars and pickups in my time here. With the exception of the FR-S, I did all my own repairs and, now that it’s not my commuter car (retired), I’m doing the repairs on that one too.
I confess that I don’t always enjoy it, but at least I trust the work, which is more than I can say for when I pay someone to do it.
BTW, OBD is a godsend to people that do their own work. Back in the late 90’s I had a Plymouth reliant that was completely dead. I checked the codes and they said it had a bad map sensor. I went to a junkyard and they GAVE ME ONE. Installed it and the car started right up. Imagine trying to identify such a problem before OBD.😋
