What happens if a candidate dies after the ballots are printed?
In 1912 the Republican Vice Presidential candidate (who was the incumbent Vice President), James S. Sherman, died on October 30. The election was on November 5 (the 1912 calendar is identical to the 2024 calendar). The Republican Party replaced Sherman with Nicholas Baker who got the 8 Republican electoral votes for Vice President (I don’t know if Baker’s name appeared on all the ballots).
