Happy 75th birthday to Billy Joel! What songs are you listening to in celebration?

Piano Man is iconic, but I like Scenes from an Italian Restaurant
… And there’s always a place for the angry young man
With his fist in the air and his head in the sand
And he’s never been able to learn from mistakes
So he can’t understand why his heart always breaks
But his honor is pure and his courage as well
And he’s fair and he’s true and he’s boring as hell
And he’ll go to the grave as an angry old man
Sounds a lot like those Pali Protestors.
Just The Way You Are
We didn’t start the fire.
Goodnight Saigon
Hell,... sounds a whole lot like me at 20... I always wondered if he was inspired by the play ‘Look Back in Anger’ when he wrote that.
Leaving out the entire Piano Man album (because all the songs are great), I really like Miami 2017. Very prophetic song writing.
“Only the Good Die Young”. As a young hormonal Catholic boy, that one was relatable. I still sing it loudly, even though I know I probably shouldn’t on a few different levels.
I also like “The Longest Time” as I was fascinated with the fact that he did all of the vocals. 13 year old me was amazed that they could do that.
“Glass Houses” was one of the first albums I ever got. Got it for Christmas as a kid from my parents. That was my first intro to him. So I’ll always have a spot for “You May Be Right”
Honesty
Yeah my drummer co worker said Billy Joel did him dirty firing him and then not paying him royalties only paying him as a sideman.
Or, “you oughta know by now” traded in your chevy for a cadlliac—ack,ack,ack,ack... if that’s what’s it’s all about then I’m movin’ out.
Billy Joel was once an opening act for Leo Kottke.. seriously. He has written some pretty effective songs, that sold. Living in FL got outta New Yawk, no thanks to the criminals running the place. Escaped.
I think it was St. Louis, where the local archdiocese requested that Billy not play it at his concert.
He played it twice.
On this show, the best song was “Piano Man.”

In the concert a lady sang Tina Turner’s “River Deep, Mountain High” I guess as a tribute. Unless I missed something they never framed it. She did a good job but I still can’t imagine that song without an orchestra.
Root Beer Rag
I was hoping someone would mention ‘Honesty’... it’s a beautiful piece...
Walk On The Water... oops- another CCR tune- carry on
Stiletto is a great song.
Good choice, but for me it’s a toss up between “And So It Goes” and “The Downeaster “Alexa”.
“We Didn’t Start The Fire”.
Sort of out of date in the 21st century.
So many….
Very thankful he is back recording.
