And the veil of the temple was rent in two, from the top to the bottom.
The Veil was a heavy curtain that hid the Ark of the Covenant / The Holy of Holies from the gaze of all in the inner temple.
Any who had not been ritually cleansed of sin who looked upon the Ark would be struck dead and so the Ark was hidden behind the veil.
At the moment of Christ death the Veil was ripped in two and Christ death bridge the divide man and God. The Covenant of Moses was no more.
The Shekinah left the Holy of Holies in 586 BC. No more ark of the covenant in the temple since that time. It was hidden by Jeremiah. God removed His presence from Jerusalem due to Israel’s sins, just before Babylon came in. Ezekiel 10.
