The Houthis’ anti-shipping campaign diverted a lot of attention from Russia’s war in Ukraine.

In other words, Russia through Iran and the Houthis is partial responsible for the US increase in food and other prices over the past 3 years. Something like 30 to 40 % of international shipping goes through the Suez Canal. In addition another 15% goes through the Panama Canal, which has had to reduce that figure a fair bit because of severe drought and insufficient water supply to fill the locks as frequently.

Of course the Covid epidemic did not help, nor the bird flu worldwide epidemic which resulted in millions and even a billion or more chickens, ducks, and geese being killed here, and many more worldwide. Both US and Russia have suffered high egg prices as chickens were killed, also high chicken prices, and then higher meat prices when people could not get chicken so easily. Prices should gradually come down on protein as flocks are gradually restored. In my ABOUT page there is probably a link to a bird flu outbreak years ago, resulting from Hussein’s destruction of the Iraq Marshes. We can thank Fauci for the increased human death rate as he ignored the information Trump had received about Zinc as a valuable virus stopper when used with HCQ. This month I talked with a building contractor who was working in the home of a high level Pfizer executive. He and his friends were laughing about how Pfizer was due to make a huge amount of money once certain things were put in place. These Pfizer people also commented THEY planned to NOT TAKE THE VACCINE.

Gasoline took a combined hit from overproduction pushing the price of oil so low, there was no longer any place to store it, and then Covid caused a considerable decrease in auto travel. Factors like this forced producers in high cost areas like N. Dakota to stop pumping and drilling, and it is only recently that oil prices have seemed to be settling at a high enough price to encourage restarting production and drilling new leases. Driving in MD, VA, and WV in the past 2 months I filled my tank with regular at $3.05/9, $2.77/9, $3.15/9, and $2.99/9. Most regular gas prices have not been listed above $3.30. Milk at several supermarkets has been selling around these prices a gallon or lower.

Hopefully, prices will continue to lower no matter who is elected, although a strong push to isolate the Houthis from Russian influence would help.
