“Within an hour of being arrested by Russian security forces, Roman Shapovalenko was threatened with rape.
On August 25, 2022, the day after Ukraine’s Independence Day, he said three armed, masked officers from Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) stormed his home in the southern Ukrainian port city of Kherson, which was occupied by Russian forces at the time.
They turned his house inside out searching for incriminating evidence. A message in Shapovalenko’s phone that called Russian soldiers “orcs” — a derisive reference to the evil forces in J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth books and a popular Ukrainian slur for the Russian army — was enough for them. He said he was tied up, blindfolded and stuffed into an unmarked car.
For days after, Shapovalenko said he was repeatedly electrocuted in his genital area, threatened with being raped with a glass bottle, and was even made to believe he could be sterilized.”

On the territory of the military unit at 77/1 Kosmonavtov Avenue, several dozen military personnel are being held who came from the “North Military District” zone to Russia either for treatment or to undergo a medical examination.
As one of the servicemen told ASTRA, men there are beaten, threatened with prison and forced to return to the front line.
“The military police control everything there; there are five of them in each barracks. Someone didn’t like something: he came in smelling of fumes, smoked in the wrong place, someone was late for the check - they beat you up, handcuff you, and put you in this cell.
“If you behave normally, the handcuffs are removed,” the interlocutor claims. “It doesn’t depend on whether you have an operation or whether an IVC is prescribed ... And you sit there until the next board, they take you in handcuffs on a bus to the airport and further to Rostov, and from there to the front.”
According to him, he himself spent 10 days in the weapons storage room. During his time, 50 people passed through this chamber. The video was recorded in mid-May, all the men in the footage have already been sent to Ukraine.

According to him, he was not in Ukraine - the man decided to refuse military service even at the training stage in Orenburg, where “they didn’t teach anything, they drank and used drugs.”
“I stayed there for 2 months and saw nothing but drunkenness. I came to the conclusion that I didn’t need it, that I was mistaken, I got carried away, I watched enough TV,” he said
