Attack On Europe: Documenting Russian Equipment Losses During The 2022 Russian Invasion Of Ukraine (2 year anniversary)

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. Many of the entries listed as 'abandoned' will likely end up captured or destroyed. Similarly, some of the captured equipment might be destroyed if it can't be recovered. When a vehicle is captured and then lost in service with its new owners, it is only added as a loss of the original operator to avoid double listings. When the origin of a piece of equipment can't be established, it's not included in the list. The Soviet flag is used when the equipment in question was produced prior to 1991. This list is constantly updated as additional footage becomes available.

“Tatarstan was attacked by drones for the first time”

“a converted Cessna or similar small plane. How in the world does something like that make it 1200 km into Russia?”

Holes in the Air Defense opening?

In WWII, Tatarstan was sanctuary for Russia’s industrial base, so far from the front, that factories could be safely built.

It resulted in investment in, and a build out of Kazan, that before the war was viewed as more of an area of sub-Russian, lesser race, subject people. (still was/is, but at least they built it up some)

With their local refinery (Taneco) also just knocked offline, that area may begin suffering fuel shortages more than higher priority areas like Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The “drone” used in the attack had wing struts. The UJ-22 doesn’t.

If it was a converted Cessna, it definitely sends a message to Russia.

Russian Air Raids Are Disrupting Ukraine’s Energy Grid – Repairs May Take a Year and a Half

The latest round of Russian air raids have brought Ukraine’s energy grid to the brink, with officials admitting, and then denying, the severity of the problem.

The head of DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy firm, said that five of its six plants had been damaged or destroyed.

80% of the company’s generating capacity is lost, and repairs could take up as much as an year and a half!

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia was carrying out ‘vile strikes’ to ‘bleed’ the Ukrainian energy systems.

DTEK supplies about a quarter of the country’s energy, and has seen its thermal power stations and other facilities repeatedly hit by Russian missiles, drones and artillery.

The old Soviet centralized heating plants may not even get rebuilt, as Ukraine is flooded with decentralized smaller generators.

Last night’s strike (https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2024/04/2/7449272/ ):

“A primary oil refining unit at the (Taneco) refinery in Russia’s city of Nizhnekamsk (which is further from Ukraine than the city of Kazan) was attacked as a result of a joint special operation by Ukraine’s Defence intelligence and the Security Service of Ukraine. The other successful strike in Yelabuga, is even further from Ukraine.

Source: Ukrainska Pravda sources in Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence and Security Service of Ukraine

Details: Ukrainska Pravda source said the Ukrainian long-range drone struck a primary oil refining unit at the refinery in Nizhnekamsk, causing a fire. The capacity of this unit was eight million tonnes of oil, which accounts for 2.6% of Russia’s total annual refining capacity. Additionally, this plant is among the top five largest refineries in Russia.”

Kazan is now in range - from now onwards.

Putin did that.

He is a Master Strategist.

The return of the "goodwill gesture".

Russia's government has ordered oil companies to lower their output in the second quarter so that the country can (get this) - meet its OPEC+ production target of 9 million barrels per day (bpd) by the end of June.

Kyiv Independent reports:

“Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed 976 Russian artillery systems in March, a record number in a single month since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry reported on April 2.

The previous record was in September 2023, when the Ukrainian army destroyed 947 Russian artillery systems, according to the Defense Ministry.

Russia has lost a total of 11,112 artillery systems since the beginning of the all-out war, the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces reported on April 2.”

Looks like it might have been a modified Ukrainian Aeroprakt A-22 Foxbat. A very simple and relatively cheap “drone” that could be produced in significant quantity almost anywhere.

Putin pushed Europe to wean itself completely from Russian natural gas. It is done. He is a Master Strategist.

OilPrice.com reports (2 April, 2024):

"Europe has managed to make it through this winter season with record levels of natural gas in storage, setting it up to head into next winter on solid ground.

With the end of March essentially wrapping up the typical winter season, natural gas stores in Europe remain 58.7% full, Gas Infrastructure Europe’s data shows—a new record. The previous record was set last winter when Europe ended with about 56% of natural gas stores filled.

Europe will now begin the process of refilling its natural gas stores—it’s already fairly full natural gas stores...

Now, according to Natasha Fielding, head of European gas pricing at Argus Media, the problem has swung to too much gas, instead of not enough.

“Europe may need to take less LNG this summer to balance out weaker demand and slow the pace of the stock build, thereby avoiding sites filling early,” Fielding said, after pointing out that Europe could reach 90 percent capacity by early August if it continues to fill at the same pace as last year."

Russia’s Gazprom plans to sell its stakes in various North Sea assets as it faces multibillion-dollar compensation claims from European gas companies for its drastic reduction in pipeline gas supplies in 2022. The auction is scheduled for 6 June, 2024. Greece’s state-owned gas company Depa has also reportedly filed a price review arbitration against Russia’s Gazprom under a long-term gas supply contract.

This strategy guarantees more lose of territory for Ukraine.

Russia will take the entire country or render it inhabitable if that is what it takes to stop attacks on its territory.

The electric grid in Ukraine is barely functional now in many parts of the country.

Power generators are going to fulfill Ukraine’s energy needs? If that sarcasm, that comment would actually be pretty funny.

With sufficiently detailed contour mapping data, the drone should be able to fly a couple of hundred feet above ground, making it invisible to ground radar until far too late.

“Russia will take the entire country”

Seems like they tried.

After two years, and expending most of the old Soviet arsenal, are they now going to “take the gloves off”? Let the nukes fly?

After two years, That Russian hubris has become laughable.
