Attack On Europe: Documenting Russian Equipment Losses During The 2022 Russian Invasion Of Ukraine (2 year anniversary)

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. Many of the entries listed as 'abandoned' will likely end up captured or destroyed. Similarly, some of the captured equipment might be destroyed if it can't be recovered. When a vehicle is captured and then lost in service with its new owners, it is only added as a loss of the original operator to avoid double listings. When the origin of a piece of equipment can't be established, it's not included in the list. The Soviet flag is used when the equipment in question was produced prior to 1991. This list is constantly updated as additional footage becomes available.

Reports Russia just shot down another one of their own transport planes over Taganrog Russia just now.

Also reports that Russia just hit Ukrainian airbase near Mykolaiv with a ballistic missile immediately after Ukrainian fighter jets launched Shadow strikes on Crimea.

Another Russian cruise missile attack unfolding right now. Yesterday’s attack on Kyiv was a flop so Russia is going to try again. This time they have sent Iranian drones in advance of the cruise missile launches to draw out Ukrainian AD. Potential of submarine launches of Kalibr missiles, too.

The Russian terror attack against Ukraine last night was strong. The Ukrainian air defense neutralized 92 aerial vehicles and missiles.

It is another wake up call to not only increase the supplies in air defense but to strike more Russian targets inside Russia.

The air campaign against Russian oil facilities is the road in weakening Russia in the most efficient way. It will be one of the cornerstones of Putin’s demise. Ukraine should not stop this under any circumstances and even expand this operation.

🔥 Wow 🤩 The Russian EW system "Sylok" and 4 positions of enemy "anti-drone" units were destroyed. It is worth seeing how a Russian runs from hole to hole.

FINANCIAL TIMES
War in Ukraine US has urged Ukraine to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries Washington told Kyiv that drone attacks risk driving up crude prices and provoking retaliation

The White House is said to have grown frustrated by brazen Ukrainian drone attacks: Top left, Ukraine’s SBU drone strikes a refinery in Ryazan; attack on Kerch bridge in July; and video of a Ukraine drone attack in Crimea last March.

Now JoeB has asked UKR to stop fighting against Russia; this adds to his campaign to stop Israel from fighting Hamas.

Conclusion: JoeB is pro-Russian and pro-Hamas and overwhelmingly anti-American - just like his predecessor, 0bama. Interesting, but not unexpected coincidence, right?

Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, March 20, 2024
https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/russian-offensive-campaign-assessment-march-20-2024

1. Several Russian financial, economic, and military indicators suggest that Russia is preparing for a large-scale conventional conflict with NATO, not imminently, but likely on a shorter timeline than what some Western analysts have initially posited.

2. Polish President Andrzej Duda emphasized in a March 20 interview with CNBC that Putin is intensifying efforts to shift Russia to a war economy with the intention of being able to attack NATO as early as 2026 or 2027, citing unspecified German research.

3. Shoigu outlined several ongoing efforts to bolster Russia’s conventional military capabilities, more likely as part of Russia’s long-term effort to prepare for a potential conventional war with NATO than as part of the war against Ukraine.

Shoigu stated that Russia has formed an army corps (AC) (likely either in reference to the AC currently forming in Karelia or to the 40th AC, which has deployed to Kherson Oblast) and a motorized rifle division (potentially in reference to the 67th Motorized Rifle Division, which is committed to the Kharkiv-Luhansk Oblast line as part of the new 25th Combined Arms Army).

Shoigu also claimed that the Russian military plans to form 2 combined arms armies (CAAs) and 14 divisions, and 16 brigades by the end of 2024.

Russia formed two new CAAs - the 25th and the 18th - in 2023, and it is unclear if Shoigu is suggesting that Russia intends to stand up two additional CAAs over the course of 2024.

Shoigu initially announced in January 2023 that Russia would also create 3 new motorized rifle divisions, 2 new air assault divisions, and reorganize 7 motorized rifle brigades into motorized rifle divisions, and Shoigu’s March 20 speech did not differentiate between air assault and motorized rifle divisions, so it is likely that Shoigu is suggesting that Russia will stand up 2 new divisions in 2024 in addition to the 12 divisions (air assault and motorized rifle, inclusive) he announced in January 2023.

ISW continues to assess that Russia currently lacks the manpower, military infrastructure, and training capacity to properly staff several entirely new divisions to army-level formations to full end strength in the immediate to medium term.

Such reforms, however, are more likely intended to build out Russia’s long-term military capabilities vis-a-vis NATO, as opposed to immediately creating and staffing new formations up to the army level.

Several Chinese banks have stopped accepting payments from Russia in Chinese yuan, fearing ramifications of U.S. sanctions, the Russian state-controlled outlet Izvestia reported on March 21, citing representatives of the Russian baking sector and business.

These institutions include Ping An Bank, Bank of Ningbo, China Guangfa Bank, Kunshan Rural Commercial Bank, Great Wall West China Bank, Shenzhen Rural Commercial Bank, Dongguan Rural Commercial Bank, and China Zheshang Bank, said Alexey Poroshin, the director of the Pervaya Gruppa firm, in a comment for Izvestia.

Who and why decided to deceive Vladimir Putin and disgrace our fleet?

We were both amused and saddened by the version that the trawler “Captain Lobanov” in the Baltic Sea was mistakenly hit by our missile. I was upset because this is a deception invented specifically for the president.

I amused myself ( this is, of course, laughter through tears ), because the version that came out, frankly speaking, was ridiculous. Does anyone really think that Vladimir Vladimirovich will be pleased with such an option, which disgraces the Russian fleet?

We tell you how it really happened.

Firstly, as we wrote, “Captain Lobanov” was blown up by a bomb that was planted on board by saboteurs (they have not yet been installed). The latest electronic warfare system, which was being tested in the Baltic Sea, was lost.

Secondly, people came up with the “not very smart” version of the missile after our publication about this incident, according to one of the sources in the Ministry of Defense.

They were afraid of the President’s reaction to the loss of valuable equipment, decided to get creative, put forward a version about a missile and “threw” it into the liberal media. They say that they are always happy to make fun of our military, so this version will be picked up. And so it happened.

Thirdly, sources in the Kremlin claim that Putin has already been informed about the loss of the electronic warfare complex. Was it worth deceiving the President, while also making our sailors look like, excuse me, idiots ( shame on those who did it )? Rhetorical question...

Kremlin snuff box, 03/21/24

The Kremlin wants to start demobilization in May. What is known so far?

It is possible to demobilize approximately 20,000 military personnel who were mobilized in 2022 as early as May. However, the date is still in question.

We were told about this by sources in the Kremlin, who have been dealing with demobilization issues for several months.

“On April 1, we will start conscription into the army, and we plan to actively send out electronic summonses. In this situation, as you understand, there will be no time for demobilization.

“And not even before mobilization. In May, when the conscription process returns to normal, it will be possible to think about replenishing the army in other ways, and about replacing some of those mobilized. At a minimum, those who are especially tired, those who do not bring much benefit at the front.

“There is also the option of demobilizing fighters who have proven themselves to be particularly effective, but this will be more difficult. Plus, many of them probably won’t want to leave the army. We’ll see,” said one of the interlocutors.

According to him, demobilization criteria have already been developed; all that remains is to “finish the details.”

Another source noted that demobilization in May is just a plan for now. Vladimir Putin knows about this date, but is waiting for specific proposals. After he receives them, there will be a discussion of the issue, including with Sergei Shoigu.

The Minister of Defense still opposes demobilization and will again try to prevent it, our sources are sure.

“US has urged Ukraine to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries Washington told Kyiv that drone attacks risk driving up crude prices”

It is politics first - high gas prices are bad for Biden’s reelection prospects. Biden wants to pander to his anti-Israeli Muslim constituents.

Politics first.

That’s a lot of equipment and manpower.

They are running out of Soviet legacy equipment which has sustained them. New production will require even less “stuff “ for public consumption.

Interesting to see how this plays out, real units staffed with real personnel or paper units

Why did we hit the Ukrainian energy sector when it got warmer? The military has three versions.

We wrote back in February that large-scale attacks on enemy energy could resume. But we were surprised that such an attack occurred now, when it has become significantly warmer, and these attacks may not be as effective as in winter.

Sources in the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff give different answers to the question of why the strike happened right now.

Most of the military ( and this is the most common version ) say that attacks on the enemy’s energy sector were carried out, despite the warming, “in order to be on time.”

“There is a threat that military assistance to the Kyiv regime will soon be increased. Then it will be more difficult to hit them. So we are in a hurry to hit important targets as soon as possible, before they have not sufficiently covered most of their cities,” admitted one of the interlocutors.

“The Americans and Europe will definitely give the enemy more weapons. We had to make it before this happened,” another interlocutor confirmed this version.

The second version that we learned: such a large-scale blow to enemy energy is simply revenge.

“They have done a lot of nasty things to us lately. They hit the oil refinery. They created hell in the Belgorod and Kursk regions. They tried to cause problems for Vladimir Vladimirovich in the elections. It was necessary to answer,” says one of Sergei Shoigu’s deputies.

But the most “exotic” version was put forward by another deputy minister of defense.

“The crests just got fed up,” he answered when asked about the reasons why the blow to the energy sector was dealt right now.
