Attack On Europe: Documenting Russian Equipment Losses During The 2022 Russian Invasion Of Ukraine (2 year anniversary)

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. Many of the entries listed as 'abandoned' will likely end up captured or destroyed. Similarly, some of the captured equipment might be destroyed if it can't be recovered. When a vehicle is captured and then lost in service with its new owners, it is only added as a loss of the original operator to avoid double listings. When the origin of a piece of equipment can't be established, it's not included in the list. The Soviet flag is used when the equipment in question was produced prior to 1991. This list is constantly updated as additional footage becomes available.

[ Russians Surrender in Large Numbers at Vovchansk ]

Day 840: Jun 12

Today, there are a lot of updates from the Kharkiv direction.

The situation in Vovchansk has seen significant developments as Ukrainian forces intensified their counterattacks and recaptured even more ground.

Different analyst reports indicate substantial gains by Ukrainian forces, who have managed to recapture key positions to the west and northeast of the city.

In a significant development, Ukrainian forces recently conducted their first-ever strike with fighter jets on Russian territory, targeting a Russian command center and massive ammo depot near Belgorod.

The strike resulted in a large-scale fire with secondary detonations, causing fear among the local population. This attack underscores the shift in the operational landscape following the authorization by all Western partners for Ukraine to attack targets on Russian soil with Western weapons, including aviation bombs.

It shows the way for Ukrainian forces to significantly damage logistic efforts to supply material to Russian forces participating in the Kharkiv offensive. This event is undoubtedly part of the shaping operations in an attempt to undermine Russian supplies and facilitate Ukrainian counter-offensive efforts.

According to different Russian military analysts and also the Vovchansk City Military Administration, Ukrainian forces have recently retaken several positions within the settlement.

Ukrainian officers have confirmed that most of Vovchansk remains under Ukrainian control, suggesting that recent tactical counterattacks have been successful in driving Russian forces out of central areas, with some Russian soldiers now surrounded and cut off.

Reports indicate that Ukrainian forces are increasing their efforts in the northern part of Vovchansk, attempting to eliminate the salient by recapturing territory block by block to the west.

For their part, in what appears to be a desperate attempt, the Russians are still trying to attack the industrial zone around the aggregate plant located in the south, where Ukrainian forces have concentrated their primary area of force buildup.

This movement puts Russian forces at an evident risk of being cut off, if Ukrainian advances to the West continue at their current pace.

Recent geolocated footage shows the success of Ukrainian counterattacks. The first video shows a Russian soldier walking unarmed along a Vovchansk street to the Ukrainian side because he decided to surrender and remain alive. This soldier was most likely part of one of the groups that were cut off and surrounded.

Those who did not surrender willingly were assaulted and still captured if they survived. A huge number of recently released videos show newly captured Russians along the whole contact line.

In general, apart from the high-rise buildings in the Citadel area in the center of the city and the industrial buildings in the southern part, both in the hands of Ukrainian forces, there are not many other areas in the city that could provide a sufficient level of fortification for Russian forces.

Most of the buildings in the northern part of Russian control are residential houses on one or two floors at most. This means that Russian forces could be forced to withdraw to a position already outside the city on the northern outskirts of Vovchansk.

On the eastern side of the city, Ukrainian forces have recaptured a significant area of the settlement and continued their advance to the north. However, they have thus far advanced through urban areas.

If we look at the topographic map, we can see that just next to these recaptured areas lies a high-altitude area, which may present more significant challenges for the continuation of Ukrainian advances.

German media military expert Julian Röpcke stated that Ukrainian troops recaptured new positions in the northeast of Vovchansk, while Russian troops continued to withdraw and counterattack lost areas with aircraft, missiles, and artillery.

According to the German expert, to transfer reinforcements from the southern to the northern bank of the Vocha River, the Ukrainian Armed Forces made use of the German “Biber” tank bridge layer.

The Russian Armed Forces attacked him with a Lancet drone, but there is no indication that the crossing went out of order. Other military analysts suggested that Ukrainian forces may be aiming to advance northeast of the city to find a path to reach the international border.

Overall, the situation in Vovchansk remains highly contested, with Ukrainian forces making significant gains through effective counteroffensive operations.

Ukrainian forces continue to recover areas in Vovchansk, leveraging their numerical superiority, the arrival of Western-supplied artillery, and the ability to strike Russian logistics and rear positions with advanced Western weaponry.

However, the urgency to accelerate these counterattacks is driven by the extensive destruction caused by Russian forces over Vovchansk, which is making it increasingly difficult for Ukrainian troops to find fortified positions within the city.

Hopefully, Ukrainian forces will liberate Vovchansk entirely as soon as possible in order to secure and prepare fortified positions in the field areas north of the city.

A supply ship, a tug, a submarine, and a warship, represents most “significant “…..

Wondered how long it would take for sea drones to show up

As for the S-500, I wonder how many missiles does this system have, what is the reload time, and how many assets will be given to protect the system

As was stated 20, 30,40 drones are sent followed by 10 atacms……

Even a claim of friendly fire or falling debris won’t save those involved in this system when it is destroyed

going to the fighter shelters:

GREY ZONE
https://t.me/grey_zone/23250

Today, enemy information resources, in particular the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, published satellite images of damage to the fifth-generation fighter Su-57 (PAK-FA). On June 8, 2024, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched an unmanned attack on an airfield near Akhtubinsk.…
A text from my old reader about how you shouldn’t wait for help, it won’t come, act on your own:

- “I am a Russian officer. My calendar has passed 20, and I have been a colonel for a couple of years. I have a successful career and everything seems to be fine, but I can’t help but say so...

My country has been waging the New Patriotic War for three years. I say “Domestic” for a reason. I can’t imagine for us, Russian people, a future in which we lost in this war

I appeal to the commanders of the airbases of the Russian Aerospace Forces and the heads of the DVKR departments supervising them.

WHAT OR WHOSE INSTRUCTIONS DO YOU NEED TO CREATE COVERS FOR OUR AIRCRAFT EQUIPMENT? WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? BY YOUR INACTION YOU ARE SUPPORTING THE ENEMY!

I realize that the creation of solid, underground or above-ground reinforced concrete shelters may be an issue that cannot be resolved at your level.

At the same time, taking into account that the main damage to our aircraft comes from primary and secondary fragments formed after explosions of UAVs and enemy missiles, to preserve aircraft equipment in most cases, aluminum hangars or hangars made of sandwich panels will be sufficient (the price of one such hangar with an area of 12x6x45 meters less than 1 million rubles).

Moreover, given that the enemy receives the main information about the location of our aircraft from visual aerial reconnaissance (satellite and UAVs), hiding equipment in ANY hangars will make it difficult to organize attacks on our airfields.

Air base commanders, captains, DVKR employees and other military aviation personnel!
You are respected, well-known people in your regions, and our country is full of caring citizens. I am sure that when you approach governors, city mayors, businessmen and social activists with a request for help in the construction of hangars, you will not be refused.

DON’T BE SHY, DON’T WAIT FOR A COMMAND FROM ABOVE, DON’T EXPECT SOMEONE TO DO THIS FOR YOU AND SOLVE THIS PROBLEM!

Commanders of motorized rifle formations , battalion commanders and company units located near military airfields and other critical infrastructure facilities. It is within your authority to create mobile air defense groups. Refer to the enemy’s experience, it is simple and effective.

ONLY YOUR INITIATIVE IS REQUIRED!

COMRADE OFFICERS, NOBODY WILL DEFEND OUR COUNTRY FOR US.

We must be strong in the rear and at the front. The future of our country and children depends on our action or inaction. In the New Patriotic War, as in the last two, we can only win together.”

Informant
https://t.me/infomil_live/7195

In Crimea, attacks on air defense position areas continue. On the night of June 9-10, command posts, radars, launchers and equipment of several S-400 and S-300 crews were destroyed.

Today the enemy also announced the destruction of several radars. And right now there are several NATO reconnaissance aircraft in the skies over the Black Sea, which are directly related to the systematic destruction of Crimean air defense.

What could air defense losses in Crimea grow into? Most likely, the F-16 will actively work on the peninsula, since in the future military units, government buildings, fuel reserves, strategic infrastructure and much more will be under attack from air weapons of Western fighters.

Obviously, the production rate does not in any way cover the level of current losses, so a solution must be found here and now. And the only correct way out of the situation will be the destruction of NATO Long-Range Warning aircraft and RQ-4 Global Hawk UAVs over the Black Sea, which are harbingers of attacks on our air defense, navy, aviation and even nuclear infrastructure.

Of course, many will argue that this is an unnecessary risk, and the consequences can be unpredictable. But let’s say objectively that there will be no consequences.

The United States has already crossed literally all the “red lines,” the last of which was the ban on strikes on Russian territory. No one will take revenge for one drone, or even for several AWACS pilots, who, moreover, will fall on their own and all coincidences are random.

At the moment, all our problems come from the lack of an answer: sunk ships, bombed air bases, destroyed air defense systems, and most importantly, killed military personnel. “Playing defensively” is obviously doomed to failure, and the sooner this is understood, the better.

Another reason for armed escorts

The Kyiv regime will be bought weapons with which to attack Russia. With our money

We have been warning for a long time that the West will finance the Kiev regime at the expense of our frozen assets - since last year. It’s a pity that no one heard us and no measures were taken. It is sad that no one was punished for this, there was not even a single resignation.

The information from our sources in the Foreign Intelligence Service is even more sad and alarming. According to them, with the money received from frozen Russian assets, Kiev will be buy weapons which it will be able to hit not only Crimea or new regions, but also deep into our territory.

“There are various rumors about where the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be allowed to shoot. I don’t want to scare anyone, so no details yet,” said one of the interlocutors.

I wonder if any measures will be taken now.

“Great stupidity.” The Kremlin reacted to Armenia’s withdrawal from the CSTO and remembered Ukraine

Nikol Pashinyan’s statement that Armenia will leave the CSTO caused disappointment in the Kremlin.

“This is great stupidity. And leaving the CSTO, and friendship with the Americans. I am sure that the Armenians will regret such decisions. And quite soon,” a high-ranking source in the AP told us.

He recalled that friendship with Americans “rarely leads to something good.” And he cited the Kyiv regime as an example.

To a clarifying question whether some kind of analogue of the SVO is possible in Armenia (as in Ukraine), he replied: “I think not. The very fact of friendship with the Americans will bury Pashinyan.” And he specifically focused on the fact that “Russia now has good, pragmatic relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey.”

Sources in the Foreign Ministry, in turn, noted that “measures will be taken in connection with the harsh actions and statements of Armenia.” But they urged not to look for any sensations in this matter.

Rosbank’s website is down.

Customers can’t login. Multiple Russian banks are preventing clients from logging in because they don’t have liquidity to give clients their money, due to new US sanctions.

Is this the start of a Russian bank run?

Trouble in paradise. After yesterday's introduction of a new package of sanctions against Russia, lines are forming at exchange offices. Brokers have reportedly started blocking Russians from withdrawing currency.

Secondary sanctions are rolling out and ratcheting up, draining Russian finances and choking off technology supply, to coincide with the exhaustion of the Soviet Military stockpiles next year. They deserve what they are going to get.

MSN reports:

“the Central Bank of Russia (CBR) suspended trading in dollars and euros as a result of new US sanctions targeting banks facilitating sanctions-busting trade with Russia on June 12...

The US expanded smart sanctions (secondary sanctions on third country entities dealing with sanctioned Russian entities) introduced in December, amongst the most successful sanctions to date, that has hurt Russia and caused leading Chinese and Turkish banks to cut ties with Russian clients to avoid being hit with secondary sanctions.

The US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) released details of the new round of sanctions targeting Russian banks that serve as intermediaries in dollar trading on the Russian foreign exchange market. The Moscow Exchange suspended trading in dollars and euros as of the start of the following day beginning June 13.

“As President Biden and Group of Seven (G7) Leaders prepare to meet this week in Italy, the U.S. Department of the Treasury is issuing sweeping new measures guided by G7 commitments to intensify the pressure on Russia for its continued cruel and unprovoked war against Ukraine,” OFAC said in a statement.

“Today’s actions ratchet up the risk of secondary sanctions for foreign financial institutions that deal with Russia’s war economy; restrict the ability of Russian military-industrial base to take advantage of certain US software and information technology (IT) services; and, together with the Department of State, target more than 300 individuals and entities both in Russia and outside its borders—including in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Central Asia, and the Caribbean—whose products and services enable Russia to sustain its war effort and evade sanctions,” OFAC said.

Foreign financial institutions risk being sanctioned for conducting or facilitating significant transactions, or providing any service, involving any sanctioned person. OFAC specifically named VTB Bank and Sberbank, Russia’s two biggest banks, as being off limits.

The new US restrictions have also impacted the National Clearing Centre, a counterparty to all currency transactions on the Moscow Exchange; the National Settlement Depository, Russia’s primary securities depository; and the insurance companies Sogaz and RNPK.

Companies, banks, and investors can no longer trade dollars or euros via the Russian exchange. However, buying and selling FX is still possible, but only on the over-the-counter (OTC) market.

Trading in dollars, euros and the Hong Kong dollar as well as trading in precious metals has been suspended on the Moscow Exchange as a result of the sanctions. Viral videos showed long lines of Russians forming at money changers, trying to buy foreign exchange while stocks last.

“Russia’s war economy is deeply isolated from the international financial system, leaving the Kremlin’s military desperate for access to the outside world,” said Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen. “Today’s actions strike at their remaining avenues for international materials and equipment, including their reliance on critical supplies from third countries. We are increasing the risk for financial institutions dealing with Russia’s war economy and eliminating paths for evasion, and diminishing Russia’s ability to benefit from access to foreign technology, equipment, software, and IT services. Every day, Russia continues to mortgage its future to sustain its unjust war of choice against Ukraine.”

The ruble was unaffected by the change, trading at RUB90.9 to the dollar as of the close of trading on June 12, slightly weaker than the RUB89.2 it was trading at the end of trading on June 11. (chart).

Most Russians hold some portion of their savings as FX as insurance against regular exchange rate volatility and banks hold billions of dollars and euros in retail deposit accounts. The CBR was quick to announce these deposits are in no danger (translation: Run for Your Life!) and will be unaffected by the suspension of FX trading, in an effort to head off a possible run on bank deposits.”

Shooting down an RQ-4 would have some consequence, but not significant. Certainly not kinetic. After all, Iran has shot one down with no public retaliation. An AWACS on the other hand, that would likely bring consequences.

The past few years it seems the US has been more willing to fly their high end drones in contested air space. Both Global Hawks and Reapers regularly fly in areas where they are at risk. And the Air Force wants to retire the RQ-4 in 2027. That tells me they have a plan to cover the mission with another system. The "secret" RQ-180 stealth drone has been operational for a few years, and might be ready to take all or some of Global Hawk's missions. The current trend in the Air Force seems to be Distributed ISR, so it might be a combination of assets.

“Sukhoi Design Bureau! Drones or sabotage?

In Moscow, I’d suspect sabotage, but elsewhere tonight, Kyiv Independent reports:

“Drones struck an oil refinery in Russia’s Voronezh Oblast overnight, regional Governor Aleksandr Gusev reported the morning of June 14.”

…and…

“ A drone attack in the city of Morozovsk in Russia’s Rostov Oblast caused a fire and disruptions to the local power supply, Russian officials and news outlets reported early on June 14.

Russian air defense units faced a “mass attack” of drones in the region’s Morozovsk district, Rostov Oblast Governor Vasily Golubev reported. The attack left some parts of the area without power.

“Several settlements have fallen into the blackout zone,” Golubev said.

A fire also broke out in the city, the Russian Telegram news channel Astra reported. Local residents reported hearing explosions.”

Japan signed a long term security support agreement with Ukraine today (13June) at the G-7 meeting, becoming the 16th nation to do so.

Another nation signed up, with a bigger GDP, and better technology than Russia.

Countries richer than Russia, that are now signed up to support Ukraine, include the USA (alone more than 10x Russia’s GDP), Japan, Germany, UK, France, Canada and Italy.
