Attack On Europe: Documenting Russian Equipment Losses During The 2022 Russian Invasion Of Ukraine (2 year anniversary)

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. Many of the entries listed as 'abandoned' will likely end up captured or destroyed. Similarly, some of the captured equipment might be destroyed if it can't be recovered. When a vehicle is captured and then lost in service with its new owners, it is only added as a loss of the original operator to avoid double listings. When the origin of a piece of equipment can't be established, it's not included in the list. The Soviet flag is used when the equipment in question was produced prior to 1991. This list is constantly updated as additional footage becomes available.

Fire at oil refinery in Komi could have been a terrorist attack

at an oil refinery near Ukhta A fire occurred - a tank with a volume of 10,000 cubic meters caught fire. The plant belongs to Lukoil. The administration of the Komi Republic has already stated that they do not connect the emergency with the drone attack.

According to media reports, 2 employees of the plant’s contracting organization died as a result of the emergency. The Ministry of Emergency Situations clarified that the fire occurred during scheduled technical work by the same contractor.

Sources in the FSB said that before the fire, employees of the enterprise heard several pops. The intelligence services are pursuing the theory that one of the dead contractor employees could have been a suicide bomber.

His surviving colleagues noted the strange behavior of the deceased. All circumstances of what is happening must be studied in detail. Interlocutors in the intelligence services do not rule out an Islamic trace in the case, but refused to say more.

It is worth recalling that previously Ukraine systematically attacked oil refining facilities in Russia. Obviously, Komi is out of range of enemy drones. At the same time, Ukraine’s use of suicide bombers on Russian territory has not previously been recorded.

A Russian soldier revealed the true meaning of the offensive near Volchansk. According to him, this is nothing more than another meat grinder, where untrained Russian soldiers are sent under machine guns and drones and are not allowed to retreat.

Result: one after another, groups are simply destroyed, and new ones come to replace them. In the company of this soldier, contract soldier Anton Andreev from the 5th company of the 1009th regiment, only 12 people out of 100 remained.

At the same time, he realizes that orders to his superiors come from Moscow, and they also cannot do anything about it.

Video with translation 3.57min. Its worse that the blurb above.

Sorry referring to the usuals here on FR, nearly everything they claim is happening with Ukrainian military is what is happening to them. Not surprising just juvenile and almost comical

Ukrainian Defence Forces destroyed a Russian vehicle convoy on Russian territory, 2.5 km from the border with Ukraine, using drones only.

The convoy of Russian formations was passing through the Sudzha district of the Kursk region.

As a result of the attack, about 12 pieces of equipment were taken out by drones of the 53rd Brigade and 103rd TD Brigade.

https://x.com/wartranslated/status/1797544413163409885

It is not only the Belgorod Region in Russia getting targeted. The neighboring Kursk Region was hit, as well. This Russia supply convoy experienced several losses and it appears that some trucks tried to disperse into the wild in order to escape from the swarm of FPV drones.

Sudzha on Google Maps

My guess is Robert Magyar's drone operators have expanded their operations to include ISR drones on the ruzzian side of the border.

Ukraine using it's new ability to strike Russian territory with spectacular effect, taking out more of Russia's pricey and increasingly rare S-300/S-400 anti-aircraft batteries around Belgorod.

The picture below is puzzling.

The tow vehicle is completely destroyed & on fire. The item being towed appears undamaged.

My guess is these vehicles were hit by FPV drones, not HIMARs.

Financial Times: China demands that Russia sell gas to it at "domestic" prices

Russia's attempts to strike a major gas pipeline deal with China have stalled.

"China has asked for a price close to heavily subsidized Russian domestic prices and is committed to buying only a small fraction of the pipeline's planned annual capacity," the article says.

Russia doesn't have the capital, manpower, or equipment to complete this project.

That just makes for more targets for UKR’s long range drones - 2000km today, 400km tomorrow.

🤭🚀 Russia transferred two Karakurt-class vessels from the Black Sea further east to the Caspian Sea after "a series of successful Ukrainian attacks," the U.K. Defense Ministry said, - Newsweek

https://x.com/Maks_NAFO_FELLA/status/1797316399309701328

The Karakurt class ships are designed to be armed with Kalibr or Oniks anti-ship cruise missiles.

Apparently, ruzzia considers their Black sea ports to be vulnerable to Ukranian attacks.

There are ship-launched, submarine-launched and air-launched versions of the Kalibr missile.

Perhaps ruzzia is using their limited resources to only manufacture air-launched versions of the Kalibr.

The air-launched Kalibrs are normally carried and launched by Tu-95 bombers over the Caspian sea...well outside Patriot range.

“Russia doesn’t have the capital, manpower, or equipment to complete this project.” (Power of Siberia 2 Natural Gas pipeline)

There is a stretch of the planned route that is over 1,000 miles long, over tundra (which melts into swamp during the Summers) where no roads yet exist. Berms would have to be built first, upon which to lay a road, and build the pipeline. Might need a railroad, for the volume of material required.

Nobody else on Earth is crazy enough to bite off that much construction to nowhere, when other projects can make better returns on capital, at lower risk.

It is China or no one for Russia. They will have take whatever terms China dictates. Even if they do, China still might not really want to take the risk with this project.

Such a project would be much like building the Alaskan highway over the same terrain - there must be videos on YT showing just how difficult it would be.

Perhaps ruzzia is using their limited resources to only manufacture air-launched versions of the Kalibr.

The Kalibr has 1500km+ range, so they can still launch from the Caspian Sea. But The Black Sea and Sea of Azov are no longer safe for the Russian Navy.

Oil prices dropped 3% today (Monday, 3 June), after Sunday’s meeting of OPEC+.

They are holding their existing production cuts in place for now, but announced that they would allow voluntary cuts (60% of the total) to resume later in the year. They did nothing to punish cheaters, and raised the UAE’s quota 300,000 bpd.

There is a ten day delay in reporting the price of Urals, but it is probably down around $64.

[ Dead in 30 Minutes: Russian Operation Goes Terribly Wrong ]

Day 831: Jun 03

Today, there are a lot of updates from the Bakhmut direction.

The most interesting updates come from the southern flank of Chasiv Yar. Here, the Russians intensified their assaults, reinforced their striking groups, and attempted to conduct an offensive operation across the canal in hopes of cutting off Ukrainian forces in the Kanal district.

After Russian forces consolidated control over the large forest to the east of the canal, the Russian commanders started devising a new plan.

The forest provided cover from detection by drones and further FPV drone strikes or artillery strikes, so Russians used it to accumulate large forces for two new assault directions.

The forest enables a decent staging ground for a new assault direction to the south of the Kanal district and for assault towards the Novy district to the west of the canal.

The Russian plan here was to cross the canal, since this particular section of it is going underground, providing Russians with stable soil to cross over it.

Afterward, the goal of the Russians was to establish positions in another forest to the west of the canal pipes; in order to do this, they would need to establish another foothold. The reason why Russians want to establish a bridgehead here is that it will allow them to covertly accumulate even more forces.

Such a staging ground would enable direct assaults on the Novy residential area to the north of the forest. Ukrainian defenses here are not as strong as in the high-rise area, as this district consists of only small residential houses, which do not give Ukrainians powerful firing positions.

Unlike reinforced high-rise buildings, these houses are also easier to destroy by artillery, which explains why Russians would prioritize assaults on the Novy district over the Kanal district.

If Russians managed to take the Novy district in further assaults, they would effectively cut off the main supply road to forces in the Kanal district, forcing the Ukrainians to withdraw from the area.

By uppercutting Novy, Russians would overcome the primary Ukrainian defenses of Chasiv Yar in the Kanal district, which could risk a withdrawal to the western side of the water barrier.

Despite establishing a staging ground, Russians encountered a series of major problems.

The staging ground in the forest is isolated from roads, so Russians can only deploy infantry squads to conduct assaults on foot. On top of that, the infantry has to walk on foot all the way to the forest.

Such process is time consuming and it delays Russian response period, buying more time for Ukrainian defenders.

Moreover, the above-ground crossing is in the open between the two forests on each side, which would enable the Ukrainians to destroy any troops crossing the canal.

With full-time drone observation of the movement of troops and equipment over the canal that isn’t already destroyed, Ukrainians can deploy and prepare troops in the Novy district for a Russian assault heading their way.

With Russian infantry being forced to move through a narrow river valley in an open area on their way to execute combat missions, they often ended up being targets of FPV drone strikes.

Furthermore, fighting in the western forest would be troublesome for the Russians, as their vehicles would not be able to move through.

If we look at the 3D map, we can see that the area is not only densely covered with trees but also has a very difficult, uneven terrain, allowing us to move only on foot. Such a setting would isolate Russian infantry on the other side without significant firepower.

Besides, it would be increasingly difficult for Russian aircraft to determine the locations of their troops and Ukrainians in the dense forest. Any glide bomb strike, therefore, presents a significant risk of friendly fire, making supporting airstrikes very unlikely.

Nonetheless, despite all the reasons that made an assault across the canal inadvisable, Russians decided to proceed with this offensive operation. Ukrainian fighters reported that Russians sent groups of infantry across the canal and noted that they did not last long.

During the assaults, Russians managed to cross the canal, enter the forest, and establish positions close to the outskirts of Novy district.

Unfortunately for Russians, Ukrainian reconnaissance drone operators quickly mapped the Russian vectors of advancement, allowing Ukrainian ground forces to organize counterattacks. Ukrainians leveraged their hidden positions in the forest to ambush the attackers and cut them off the mainland.

Because of exposure to drone strikes near the canal crossing and because the forests allow for Ukrainians to set up ambushes, Russian troops were quickly encircled and eliminated. Ukrainian fighters in the area report that Russian assault groups barely lasted 30 minutes on the other side of the canal.

Later, prominent Russian milbloggers confirmed that all Russian attempts to break through Ukrainian defenses near the Novy district were unsuccessful. Ultimately, the Russians gave up on their attempts to cross the canal.

Seeing how their attempts to cross the canal and advance on Novy district to cut off Kanal district to the east were unsuccessful, Russians resorted to assaulting Kanal from the front yet again. This time, Russians attacked the Kanal district from the south.

However, due to the fact that Russians had to cross a large open field, Russian units suffered significant losses in manpower and equipment.

Ukrainian drone operators managed to destroy 2 BMD-3s and a BMD-4 IFV, one Tigr armored car, and a T-90M tank.

Overall, Russian forces conducted a disastrous canal-crossing operation. Despite the unfavorable setting and premature for such an operation conditions, the Russian commanders sent their elite airborne to assault the Novy district.

Ukrainian forces exploited the main Russian weaknesses in the form of the narrow area of advancement, cut off Russian forces from supplies, and then slowly encircled and eliminated the isolated soldiers.

It seems like the Russian commanders do not plan to continue with this operation, as they have already gone back to the usual costly frontal assaults on the Ukrainian fortifications in the Kanal district.

Brewing: Arctic domination confrontation between Russia and China. US and Canada are minor to non-existent players.

Where did Patrushev go?

Many people ask us - why does Nikolai Patrushev, after leaving the post of Secretary of the Security Council and his new appointment, not appear in public? We answer.

Nikolai Patrushev has been faithfully serving his country for decades. He is a loyal ally of the president. Unfortunately, Patrushev gave a lot of his health to make the Security Council a truly influential body. In agreement with the president, Patrushev is now restoring his health. Sources said he had surgery at the end of May.

One of Patrushev’s main tasks now is to create a new vision of the Arctic for Russia . This systematic work requires a lot of time and consultation. It is likely that the new concept that Patrushev is preparing will determine Russia’s role in the Arctic for decades to come. And the necessary resources and steps to achieve this goal will be calculated. Especially given the development of unmanned maritime systems.

And yes, Nikolai Platonovich’s work is deliberately not in public. He has many serious tasks.

Personnel decides everything. Briefly about mobilization, conscientious objectors and conscripts

May became very revealing in terms of the situation on the battlefield.

First of all, in the Kharkov region, where the Russian Armed Forces tried to break through and force the enemy to use reserves.

What’s the result? Despite all attempts, our troops have not yet managed to gain a foothold in Volchansk. Although the Ukrainian Armed Forces really sent a lot of reserves to the region.

The General Staff has different assessments of our breakthrough. There are those who believe that we should have thrown more forces into the area in the Kharkov region, and there are those who believe that the offensive itself was premature (they nod at Shoigu).

[ finding troops getting more and more difficult ]

We have data on losses, and, unfortunately, they are growing. At the request of respected people from the Ministry of Defense, we will publish them later. But, more importantly, the situation with reserves is also not encouraging.

“The search for people to join the ranks of our army continues in several directions. There is an international vector, within which fighters are actively being sought in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Lately, it has become more difficult to lure even with a long ruble.

The efficiency of the internal search for reserves has also decreased - prisoners in a large there are no numbers. They send refuseniks, fresh contract soldiers (sometimes without training). In general, the work is being done, but the results, frankly speaking, leave much to be desired,” a source at the Ministry of Defense familiar with the situation told us.

According to him, in such conditions it is hardly possible to talk about demobilization. “I would rather think about a new wave of mobilization. It’s time to defend our homeland, and not bury our heads in the sand,” the general said.

In addition, he noted that the number of officers in reserve units is significantly lower than in combat ones.

“Sometimes an officer without combat experience is put in the place of a deceased combat commander. Conflicts arise on the ground. After all, the book and the real war are very different,” the source said.
