I was interested to see that in NONE of the programs he mentioned in his next comment did he list any of the many programs feeding starving children, preventing resurgence of AIDS infectivity by withholding medication, vaccination against serious diseases like polio, etc. When the new came out I was surprised to see that the US is providing around 40% of the worldwide aid programs for the sick and hungry. Actually a lot of this serves our own self-interest, but wow, 40%? I think Europe and the Asian successful countries need to pay more attention to what is also in their own self interest, especially the spread of dangerous illnesses and the movement of hungry people to other countries including their own.
