By way of comparison, the world’s largest oil storage farm is at Cushing, OK, where 7 companies are feeding in mostly WTI oil for storage. It has around 360 large tanks to hold around 91 million barrels of oil, and comprises about 13% of total available US storage.
Back during Trump’s first presidency when gas was as cheap as around $2 a gallon a day came when there was no storage available in tanks or ships. Suppliers were so frustrated they were even paying people to take their oil for $free. A number of producers in the more costly drilling/pumping areas ended closing down as they could not make a decent profit with the gasoline prices that low. Some are reluctant to start pumping and drilling again with the current world oil picture so volatile. This is one reason why there are a number of leases approved in the past several years that have not yet been acted on. I wonder how some producers, especially in higher cost production areas feel about Drill, Baby, Drill?
I suspect that Regular gasoline prices slightly higher or lower than $3 may be with us for a while. I can live with that. I’m glad a gallon of Walmart milk is still staying under $3. Now if they could just fix BIRD FLU. Millions of chickens culled/killed for a few infected birds in barn is driving up egg and chicken prices. Fewer chickens are driving up beef, pork, and fish prices.
