Most folks start with the default position that the official government narrative on any issue is the correct one—and put the burden of proof on anyone who contests that view.
My view is the exact opposite. My default position is that the government is lying about everything and the burden of proof lies with those who wish to support the government view.
In the battle of narratives (on any topic) the government has the built in advantage of employees paid to push the official line, of mass media propagandists who support the official version and of the use of status and social shaming to intimidate those with “unconventional” views.
The government also funds organizations that support their views and takes away funding from anyone who resists.
In almost any university or even a private employer you will be silenced with unconventional views about almost any topic.
We end up with groupthink—and the odds of groupthink getting anything correct is lower than a broken clock getting the time right.
This is not just today and in the US—this is throughout all of human history and everywhere.
“ My view is the exact opposite. My default position is that the government is lying about everything and the burden of proof lies with those who wish to support the government view.”
Could not state my default view more perfectly!
