Use Caucasian instead. I prefer Caucasian of Indigenous European descent. In fact, I will correct people not using my correct ethnicity and race.

University of Chicago Manual of Style: "...if an author has a conscious and consistently applied preference regarding capitalization, punctuation, or the like that differs from what the Manual recommends [the recommendation is to not capitalize the words in question at all], we will respect that preference. That is the spirit in which our advice is offered, and in which we hope others receive and interpret it."

Bigspeak for "if the writer does it all the time, then, by golly, that's their style and good enough for us." lol

The original reason for this was that “Negro” was race and an ethnicity while “white” wasn’t.

Whether or not that made sense it was carried over to “Black” and “white” (even though there are “Blacks” in Australia and Melanesia who aren’t of the African or Negro race).

But “Brown” definitely isn’t either a race or an ethnicity — and it’s insulting, isn’t it?

If you’re not going to be bothered to find out whether somebody is Latin American, or Middle Eastern, or South Asian, capitalizing “Brown” doesn’t help.

What’s next? Are East Asians now “Yellows?”

Now they’ve made any black or brown pilot suspect for not being hired for their skills.
