I have zero problem with my standard mechanical key locks.

Exactly. Who asked for this keyless technology? I didn't.

I often have to drive rentals and I can't stand those fobs that don't use an ignition, where I just leave it in the cupholder and push the start button.

I try not to be an old Luddite fuddy-duddy yelling at clouds but, really, I hate this new tech.

My standard is that you don’t want it for your house, it probably doesn’t make any sense for the car.

In my view that covers, keyless entry, electric windows, wall-to-wall carpeting, and windows you can’t see out of.

Who asked for this keyless technology?

The financing companies asked for keyless technology. It makes it a lot easier to repossess the car. It allows them to disconnect the ignition remotely so the buyer or lessee can't start the car and then reactivate it when the re-possessor shows up.
