I was right to be upset then that more than one article said insiders said GHW Bush seemed to look vacantly ahead when people talked about the ambition to win he needed and that Bush seemed to be ambivalent and listless about whether he really wanted to be President again. That was selfish and a disaster for us as Bill and Hillary filled the vacuum.

Bush won the election in 1988 because Michael Dukakis could not get out of his own way. Any competent candidate on the democrat side would have won that election.
Was Bush indifferent in 1992, or was he just the "victim" of having an opponent who knew how to win actual contested elections?
