I rewatched the original Kolchak series recently and then the remake TV series called “The Night Stalker” (2005) on youtube. The remake isn't as quirky and fun as the original. It also blends more of an “X-Files” mood to it with the skeptical woman reporter to Kolchak (son of the original iirc?). It was okay - I wish it had lasted longer than one season.

Kolchak was an inspiration for the X Files, they even cast Darren McGavin in an episode
