They went to war against that Document. The Decleration is a creation of THE UNITED STATES.
The 13 states created the Declaration of Independence.
Also, the 13 states created the federal government; the federal government did not create the 13 states.
States are the parents; the federal government is the child of the parents.
Please, don't let Biden confuse you on this.
I’m talking about THE UNION,not the Fedetal Government. “ Our Federal Union, it must be preserved.” Andrew Jackson.
The signers of the Declaration of Independence absolutely disagree with you. They assert that the right to independence is absolute, given by God, and irrevocable.
the Union was declared perpetual by the Articles of Confederation,
But absolutely contradicted by the Declaration of Independence which is from whence the Articles of Confederation obtained whatever legitimacy they ever possessed.
Do you not think England had laws forbidding secession too?
and Section 10 of the Constitution states that no State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance or Confederation
Once they leave, they aren't states anymore. They are independent nations.
I have heard this claim before, and i've also heard it leveled at the Union side as well. Karl Marx certainly applauded everything Lincoln did.
Not sure what to make of the assertion of socialism in an era before it became a real thing, and I can't see how either side could be regarded as having embraced socialistic principles.
Both were pretty capitalistic, and there wasn't any social safety net for either side.
It sounded like you were talking about the federal government in your post 90.
You said: “No, they (the states) formed a new Federal Government.”
Yes, on that date a bunch of slave owning states seceded from a Union (Union of Crowns, aka United Kingdom) and form a confederacy. (Articles of Confederation.)
We would all like to believe we would do the moral thing, but I think most people would be a product of their society, and go along with their society even when it does things that are wrong and immoral.
We see a lot of that happening nowadays. This trans craze comes to mind.
They were Colonies.
The UNION began on July 4th, 1776.
Ultimately, it was tested on the battfield, and The Union was upheld.
Ultimately, the battlefield decided it, and the US was upheld as a Nation.
I see the words Free and Independent States used in the DOI and I see the words “dissolve the political bands” but I don't see the word “union.”
Can you help me find it?
Pk, one last time. ALL the Colonies had to agree to leave Great Britian, or none would. They left together, and created one Nation from the begining.
Re: 108 - I’d like to believe that looking at human chattel is different. But again, looking at it through a 21st century lens.
“...who are we...”
I struggled to find a better way to put that!
The Civil War should not have happened, because chattel Slavery should not have happened. The Torah forbids it. Kidnapping a human being and selling one into slavery is a capital crime according to ‘Jewish’ Law. Christianity wandered away from its source, the Torah, and was co-opted and seduced by corrupt politicians. Eventually it generated teachings that were hostile to, and in direct opposition to the plain meaning of Scripture. God is not mocked; you reap what you sow. The southern soldier, as well as the northern, reaped the terrible harvest of a heresy spawned by discarding the Law of God. They paid the price for two thousand years olf darkness. Within their milieu, they answered the call of duty. The memorial should stay, and a National commitment must be made, to return to “the God of our fathers”, and his revealed Word.
Stanton and his ally Quartermaster general Montgomery Meigs conspired t appropriate 200 acres surrounding Arlington house.
$$$$$$$$$$$
As I read years ago, Lincoln was willing to PRESERVE THE UNION with slavery or without, but Preserving the Union was his main intent.
After all, 5 slave states did not join the South in the revolt. Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia was split and West Virginia went Union, and Washington D.C. was still a slave area at that time.
There were still enough Democrats in the North to keep John Breckinridge from becoming President. They voted for Douglas or Bell. Had the Democrats united wit one candidate, Lincoln MIGHT not have won. It would have been a close call.
I am surprised those “late Night” democrat votes did not show up to give the Democrats the Presidency as in 2020.
So your argument is that if one group has greater power, it's acceptable for them to subjugate others?
Isn't that considered morally wrong when it is done to slaves?
