“Haven’t seen much if anything in the MSM about this new conflict, which could cause a spike in oil prices and send a huge number of refugees toward our open border.”
My understanding is that Western Media hasn’t been activated to report on this story.
Totally agree.
If you look up the population of Guyana...it’s around 900,000. If things were ‘fair’...everybody in Guyana ought to get a Alaska-type check yearly but with socialism in the mix...no one will get a thing except the oil companies and the top level of leadership.
Just a hunch but this Raposa Sierra do Sol region of Brazil (bumping up against Venezuela and Guyana) is probably loaded with oil/natural gas as well, and this event will trigger more exploration of this region. Indian tribal area, as far as I know, and it’ll create more tensions in Brazil if proven true.
They have lots of oil, but American colonialism, climate change, economic inequality, racism, homophobia, and genocide of trans people of color have wrecked their oil industry as well as their economy. D**n those evil Americans!
Putin is playing checkers. He sparks up issues in South America…what is Biden going to do about that? We protect Guyana, it means Maduro’s allies (Iran and Russia) start launching their missiles from the coast.
This is probably the reason we cut a deal to get oil from Venezuela. Biden is being boxed into a corner.
Can you say, “Wag the dog”?
Lol….the WH and State are prob frantically trying to decide how to spin this!
What a debacle. They manage to sweet talk Maduro into a deal about his elections and his oil, and announce in October the US is lifting sanctions on Venezuela. Then 6 weeks later, Maduro pulls a bait and switch referendum to invade Guyana.
Well, with the Ukraine war, the US simply cannot accept referendums of annexation….can we? But what leverage do we have with Maduro?
Think he’s got us over a barrel….an oil barrel.
But if we don’t intervene for Guyana…what message do we send to all our South American neighbors about backing up their security!
This may be a ploy to look tough on Venezuelan sanctions….again.
Use a hostage situation as an excuse.
“US Says Venezuela Must Free Jailed Americans or Risk Renewed Sanctions
At least three Americans are currently detained in Caracas
Nichols said US is insisting on their ‘immediate release’”
Because communism ruins everything.

“If you can grab it and defend it it’s yours.”
Communism: What is mine is mine and what is yours is mine.
I don’t know if we have any way to stop Maduro, but I suspect that we still have enough left of our military to give him a good spanking.
...and, for the Neocons, they certainly need a Third World country to beat up on these days, considering their DISASTER in Ukraine.
Better idea...
USA troops invade and occupy part of Venezuela.
We alert the world we are liberating the country from Marxist tyranny.
We publicly inform the Top 1,000 Marxists they have 24 hours to leave the country, or we will kill every one of them.
Well, its a cool fantasy, anyway.
Problem #1 - at least 40% of Venezuela really is Marxist.
Problem #2 - another 40% are Socialist, and all of them want to emigrate to the USA, so they can vote for Democrats.
Jonestown, where 900+ people were murdered/suicided perhaps by the CIA, at least kept the Venezuela land-grab in check.
US should make a 3-way pact with Guyana and Brazil.
US offers to intervene to get Venezuela out of Guyana, who then offers generous offshore drilling concessions to US and Brazil. Brazil (later OAS) enforces border security between Venezuela and Guyana.
The US can easily do without Venezuelan oil. The US produces 13mbpd and consumes 20mbpd with only 7mbpd imported, mostly from Canada.
Oil - In 2015 Exxon Mobil discovered an offshore light sweet crude oil field offshore in Guyanan waters which is larger than all of Kuwait’s reserves.
We can easily take out El Presidente just like we did the Iranian general
Wow - I had no idea.
Actually, I had no idea Guyana had high grade offshore oil.
Strange, because I read energy news every week.
How did I miss this!
At least the referendums in Ukraine were made by the local population to join Russia...
In this case, Venezuelans voted to take another country’s land—Guyanese were not allowed to vote on it.
I’d say it is very different.
That’s what I read about Guyana’s oil reserves in Al Jezera. Might not be accurate.
But Venezuela has nearly 300 billion barrels of proven oil reserves. They apparently want the easier-to-refine Guyanan offshore oil.
Yup, the picture is beginning to come in pretty clear now, with all those young, military aged South American men coming across the border..
ARE YOU READY FOR A WAR..!!!
Biden needs to move an carrier off the coast of Guyana and warm Maduro not to invade. And if they do that, they will face nonstop strikes from the carrier.
That will force Maduro to back off.
But this is Biden we're dealing with.
