Good friend was an actual case study on alcoholism. A researcher from IU stayed in contact for 20 years tracking her progress bi annually. She’d been through every rehab that insurance would pay for. 3 day, 7 day, 30 day stays, even Salvation Army and of course AA.
Lost many good jobs
Her father was also an alcoholic, sister preferred pills. Dad kicked it when he almost lost his job as a pharmacist. Stayed cleaned the rest if his life.
My friend was a closeted binge drinker. Could be sober for months and and years, but always went back to vodka.
It eventually wrecked her kidneys and spent the last several years on dialysis with all the complications that come with that. Eventually she’d had enough of hospital stays and put herself in hospice. Lasted 24 hours. She passed in March 2020 just as covid was hitting and didn’t want to die alone in the hospital.
One thing she told me that always stuck...
“Once you learn how to lie to yourself as you look in the mirror in the morning, it’s easy to lie to everyone else”
Good luck, and God bless you.
You can do it
A profound observation indeed.
