Attack On Europe: Documenting Russian Equipment Losses During The 2022 Russian Invasion Of Ukraine

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. Many of the entries listed as 'abandoned' will likely end up captured or destroyed. Similarly, some of the captured equipment might be destroyed if it can't be recovered. When a vehicle is captured and then lost in service with its new owners, it is only added as a loss of the original operator to avoid double listings. When the origin of a piece of equipment can't be established, it's not included in the list. The Soviet flag is used when the equipment in question was produced prior to 1991. This list is constantly updated as additional footage becomes available.

Pole-21 is an absolute joke of a system. It affects the Russians more than it does Excalibur and GMLRS.

I've seen reports of Russians complaining that their drones were lost when Russian EW was activated without warning them, while Uke/Western drones flew through the jamming. I did see reports that Russia had some early success jamming one of our counter battery radars, but that vulnerability seems to have been quickly corrected. For some reason, there are a group of freepers who believed the hype that Russia has the best EW in the world, and we would be helpless against them. Our weapons won't work and we will be blind. I think that argument has been settled.

It’s not very often the USA announces the arrival of an SSBN. Sending a message to the mullahs.

U.S. Central Command
On November 5, 2023, an Ohio-class submarine arrived in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.

Yeah, there are people here and elsewhere who think Excalibur, JDAMs, and GMLRS were only designed to deal with inbred goat humpers as opposed to fight peer or near peer foes.

Remember when Russia used to sell Europe a lot of Natural Gas?

Putin is a Master Strategist (PIMS).

Europe’s Gas Storage Hits Record High (almost 100%)
By Irina Slav - Nov 05, 2023, https://oilprice.com/Energy/Natural-Gas/Europes-Gas-Storage-Hits-Record-High-But-Winter-Worries-Persist.html

“Europe’s gas storage is nearly full, yet this may not be sufficient for winter needs, leading to continuous LNG imports and additional storage strategies including utilizing Ukraine’s facilities.

Germany and other EU members have inked long-term LNG supply contracts, stretching beyond the 2050 net-zero target.”

“reports emerged that Chevron was negotiating LNG deliveries for the European Union, looking at contract terms of 15 years.

The news followed three other long-term deals (each for 27 years) that European energy companies closed with Qatar, one of the world’s largest exporters of LNG, in the past month.

Germany has installed three floating LNG import terminals over the past year or so and is now working on three more. The EU, which has emerged as the biggest importer of U.S. LNG this year, recently boasted that gas storage is almost 100% full...

...Media reported this month that European countries were starting to store gas in Ukraine as their own storage caverns filled up with regasified LNG bought earlier this year. Close to 30 LNG tankers are now on their way to European ports and are due to arrive by the end of the month.”

“that ship is still afloat, but the upper part of it is noticeably damaged (the Askold) (At the Kerch Shipyard, which is also referred to as the Zaliv or Butoma shipyard)”

Russians are claiming that 15 Ukrainian cruise missiles were fired in this attack, and that they intercepted 13 of them with Air Defense. (Their lips may have been moving as this claim was made, indicating the likely presence of B.S.)

I wonder if:

- far fewer cruise missiles were fired
- other significant damage occurred in the attack
- or if Russian Air Defenses are suddenly much more effective against Storm Shadow/SCALP cruise missiles?

Ukraine launched the missiles in the daytime this time while the Sevastopol attack last time was at night.

ISW reports (5 Nov):

“The Zalyv shipyard is the largest shipyard in Eastern Europe and is likely the main repair facility for the BSF in Crimea following a successful Ukraine strike on the Russian state-owned ship repair facility Sevmorzavod in Sevastopol on September 13, 2023.

The extent of damage to the repair facilities at the Zalyv Shipyard is unclear, although the available satellite imagery suggests that the Ukrainian strike has likely not caused damage that will disrupt its operations in the medium-to-long term, unlike the previous strike on the Sevmorzavod facility.”

Could it be that the the pay of Russian Air Defenders is not enough to keep them drunk during the days, as well as the nights?

Russia just instituted more new capital controls.

They now restrict payments to foreign companies for assets in Russia (that is, if they want to pull out their operations from Russia, their assets will be taken).

Some of this had already been happening, now it is a Presidential Dictate.

The Guardian reports:

“Gaza was rocked by a series of huge explosions on Sunday evening and communications with the coastal strip were cut, as violence also escalated on Israel’s northern boundary with Lebanon.

The strikes on Gaza came as the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) indicated that Israeli troops were planning to enter Gaza City in force perhaps within the next 48 hours, according to reports in Israeli media.”

I wonder if: ...Russian Air Defenses are suddenly much more effective against Storm Shadow/SCALP cruise missiles?

Storm Shadow/SCALP cruise missiles perform a popup maneuver to attack the target. This popup maneuver allows the missile to ID the target.

The popup would explain why the upper part of the Askold was damaged.

The popup would also expose the missile to ruzzian surface to air systems.

I believe Ukraine attacked using TU-141 drones and SCALPs. The TU-141s were decoys and were probably shot down.

- far fewer cruise missiles were fired

I believe this is the case. Base on various videos of the attack, it appears there were 4 missiles. One of them was intercepted and came down in flames near the ship but didn't explode. The other 3 struck the target, or as Russia would say, were intercepted by the ship. I think this is the first documented intercept of a Stormshadow/SCALP.

“Based on various videos of the attack, it appears there were 4 missiles”

That is what a Ukrainian war correspondent reported on the day of the attack.
