His phrasing actually suggests to me that he’s being fed lines in tiny chunks. The way he developed brown eyes in recent years and he seems to be shifting his eyes as if he is reading short lines makes me think they could be using this technology with him:

A smart contact lens with a built-in visual display is designed to magnify images for people with low vision. The patented lens, designed by a company called Mojo Vision, can project content from a smartphone.

“Another company, Innovega, is also working on a soft contact lens that can produce a display anywhere in the eye’s vision. Being hearing impaired, I would welcome glasses that have closed captioning.
Even contact lenses. THAT would be something!
