If you’ve been paying any attention to this media outlet over the past month (and, if you have, thank you very much), you’ve noticed that I’m all in with the Deion Sanders experiment in Colorado.
It’s fun to watch. It has generated tremendous interest. And Deion is exactly the kind of coach a struggling NFL team should be looking to bring to its sideline with a blank check, even if Deion is fully committed to college football generally and Colorado University specifically.
But it’s not fair to get so caught up in the hype and the hoopla that real football subjects take a back seat to the extended and unlimited love fest for Coach Prime.

Deon is getting special treatment. This is college so what do you expect? Special treatment for admissions and special treatment by the press.
Nearly all black coaches get special treatment. Look at Mike Tomlin of the Steelers. He only won against the Cardinals because Bill Cowher put together that team. The Steelers haven’t done anything since aside from being in the Super Bowl with the Packers.
“all in with the Deion Sanders experiment in Colorado.”
Yea what other coach’s hire is being called experiment?
Special.
$90,000,000 in excess donations to CU while his contract is $30,000,000-
experiment is a success already-
everyone who brings $60,000,000 directly to the bottomline-
whether selling football or idiotic racism is going to get special treatment.
Not happy about that. The play calling was stupid at the end there. Deion didn’t offer any explanation and the press avoids the subject.
Turns me off. I’d like to find the forum if there is one where Deion needs to talk about substantive issues.
If not, I may lose interest in this Colorado thing.
I’m just happy to have a third team to root against, Penn State and Rutgers being the others.
Deion Sanders know how to recruit. You can go far if you do that.
“I wanna coach of the Atlanta Falcons. I’d just hire an offensive co-ordinator, a defensive co-ordinator and a special teams coach.” Deon Sanders.
I knew back then he was lazy. Bill Belichick I’m sure puts in a 100 hour work week.
Still Deon is doing well. He’ll attract the best athletes, get the best media attention, and act arrogant. And when he loses?
Colorado came back and was in the game almost to the end.
What part of ‘rebuilding year’ don’t people understand? Sheesh.
and earning CU $60,000,000 in found money-
other than that he’s done nothing.
They should’ve gone with one of the good old boys-
it has served them so well the last 100yrs.
Look at Mike Tomlin but not Jeff Fisher=
one is successful, one is lifetime .500-
one signed the largest coaching contract in NFL history and it’s not the successful one.
Isn't that what he is supposed to do? He is supposed to recruit the players. Then hire the coaches and leave the play calling to them. He's like the CEO.
Fine. In the pros? It was the NFL he was talking about.
Yeah. He shouldn’t coach in the pros. But his stuff is working for college football. That’s why a lot of guys like him can’t make it in the pros.
I am sure that Mike Tomlin is a fine person.
However, his sideline persona is as if he is the deer looking into the headlights.
He appears lost, frozen by the moment, unable to call the next play or understand the last play.
His biggest problem is that the TV cameras are on him because he is a black coach in the NFL! Did any other coach get the same coverage; Tom Landry, Paul Brown, Vince Lombardi, etc? NO
He’s not a good coach. Tomlin is there because the Steelers have a history of not firing their coaches, they let them leave on their own terms.
This article is about sports ball, right?
I have not heard and cannot imagine their reason for running out the clock with all those runs. If they’d saved half a minute they’d have had a great chance to win the game.
Sounds like the Rooney Rule.
That’s dumb. Tomlin has been around a long time and he has a solid winning record.
But everyone has their strengths & weaknesses. He’s a flat out terrible game manager. 4th down calls can be profitably handed over to any 20-something that has been playing Madden for 10+ years.
The only way to explain Tomlin’s record in view of his terrible game management is his *man* management. During his tenure plenty of middling talent - not every player can be Tom Brady - have developed into competent professionals. Over too long a span of time for Tomlin *not* to have something to do with it.
Play calling at the end was bad, no doubt. But if you haven’t noticed, Deon doesn’t call plays for his offense. His refusal to throw his OC under the bus is a smart play.
Tom Landry was treated like a saint by the media! Crap, the reason I grew up rooting for the Skins to beat the Cowboys was because I had to listen to Summerall & Brookshier talk every frickin week about how they had dinner at Staubach’s house that week. My favorite sports years are when the Cowboys & Yankees stink.
