What's next? What's the only natural conclusion?

No one has a crystal ball, but if you're going by the law of averages then court proceedings follow indictments more frequently than assassinations.

You wouldn't apply the law of averages when, in this case, the enemy keeps upping the ante. You would apply linear regression to predict what might come next.

Applying the law of averages, in this case, would be like estimating next year's car prices as an average of the last 3 or 5 years when prices have been going up every year. As you see, it won't work.
