Trump's legal advisers urge him to cancel press conference to refute Georgia allegations: Sources

Former President Donald Trump's promised press conference to refute the allegations in the indictment handed up by the Fulton County District Attorney's Office is now very much in doubt, multiple sources familiar with the matter tell ABC News.

Sources tell ABC News that Trump's legal advisers have told him that holding such a press conference with dubious claims of voter fraud will only complicate his legal problems and some of his attorneys have advised him to cancel it. Trump announced the planned press conference with a social media post shortly after he and 18 co-defendants were indicted late Monday in Georgia. He said he would present, "A Large, Complex, Detailed but Irrefutable REPORT on the Presidential Election Fraud which took place in Georgia."

Georgia's Republican governor responded to that with his own social media post declaring, "The 2020 election in Georgia was not stolen. For nearly three years now, anyone with evidence of fraud has failed to come forward -- under oath -- and prove anything in a court of law.”

Campaigning in Iowa, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he agreed with Kemp. And so did former Vice President Mike Pence, who said on Wednesday, "The Georgia election was not stolen."

DeSantis should have not entered the race; an outstanding governor but an underwhelming presidential possibility.

Georgia has a republican governor, and republican SoS. They are not accused of fraud, they audited the counts and machines in democrat controlled counties. If there was fraud, it was not rigged machines, or ballots inaccurately counted.

At this point anything remotely considered illegal would result in actions that would make the actions against Trump seem trivial.

“Georgia has a republican governor, and republican SoS.”

Nominally, perhaps.

“They are not accused of fraud...”

They are certainly accused of participating in covering up the fraud.

“If there was fraud, it was not rigged machines, or ballots inaccurately counted.”

Fraudulent ballots accurately counted are still fraudulent.

Oh yeah, what are they gonna do? File more illegal indictments? Suspend more constitutional rights? Take more political prisoners?

There’s a great scene from Solzhenitsyn’s “The First Circle”. A political prisoner, Bobynin, is brought before the head of the MGB (one of many iterations of the KGB), and when entering the minister’s office, he casually walks in and plops down on a comfy chair. The minister is taken aback and asks the prisoner “Why did you sit down without permission? Don’t you know who I am?”

Well, the prisoner responds (after a little insolent remark comparing the minister to Herman Goering):

“I know you need me and I don’t need you.”

The minister tries to threaten him, but it doesn’t work. Bobynin explains that it can’t work, because he has nothing to lose. His wife is dead, his children are dead, his whole family is dead, he’s been in prison for twenty years already in the worst conditions, and all he owns in the world is a handkerchief. So since he has nothing else that can be taken away, the minister no longer has any leverage at all.

Well, we’re not quite at that point, but we are getting close. Soon, threats will no longer work, at least not threats of the kind that Democrats are willing to make at this point. They’re going to need to get their hands much dirtier, or they will find compliance is not so forthcoming.

"Maybe some of the info. he has, is best reserved for the trial?"

You actually think a hand-picked Judge is going to let any evidence he has be admissible in a court of law? The Supreme Court wouldn't even hear any evidence of voter fraud, but you expect a County Judge to allow it? He's going to be found guilty whether he gives the press conference or not. Then he will appeal the decision.

"Yeah, Kemp didn’t look very hard, either."

Since Kemp is claiming the election wasn't stolen, somebody needs to ask him why then, there was the necessity to pass an election overhaul Bill which he signed into law in March 2021. The new law added new identification requirements, severely restricts absentee ballots, and only allow voters to use the drop boxes during early voting hours and inside early voting locations.

"He always hires the best."

You actually believe what the media claims? "Sources close to" "anonymous individuals familiar with" yada, yada yada, are trigger words for gullible people to react to.

Not at all going by this, going by history. Trump sucks when it comes to hiring people - it’s his weak spot.

"Not at all going by this, going by history. Trump sucks when it comes to hiring people - it’s his weak spot."

Unless you're a mind reader, no one, not even Trump can know what is in a person's heart and soul when you hire them, or whether threats, or money will motivate them to turn on you. A long time ago, Trump said that eventually, someone who claimed you could trust them, will turn on you. Trump gave a lot of people the opportunity to work with him. There's no telling who will, and won't stab you in the back. Ask Scooter Libby about that.

Trump is a high-profile person, has been for a very long time. A lot of other people worked for him in his real estate business, his golf courses, etc. How many times have you read of any of them feeding smut to the press, or complaining about him? I don't remember any of his regular employees making outrageous allegations about the man since he announced his run for President in 2015. Michael Cohen wasn't an employee. He was a corrupt lawyer who lied on his tax returns and bank loan applications. The people who turned on him are the political animals that make up Washington politics. They obviously have no core values or integrity to begin with, but you can't see that on the outside of a person or find it in a job interview, but it will eventually show itself. And Trump didn't hire all of the people that worked for him. That's what he had a Chief of Staff for. They interviewed a lot of these people themselves, and made recommendations to him.

You have no idea what kind of pressures were put on the people who turned on Trump, or the motivations that helped them make that decision. Unless you live and work among the slugs in the deep state, you have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. So don't blame it all on Trump. Democrats were planning on impeaching him before he was even inaugurated, so it's likely, they helped some of his people to turn on him like a rabid dog. Unfortunately, some people can be easily bought. and a majority of them live and work in D.C.

Yeah. 4 decades of people working with Trump saying he’s a corrupt a$$hole, nothing to see here.
