I had a neighbor 30 years ago who had a WW1 museum and was famous in France. He was a historian and the French people at that time understood what fascism was and wanted history to be remembered.
(almost no one in the usa knew who he was or even cared.)
he gave me a painting from some famous french painter called “the museum of forgotten toys”
