How was it determined that they were feds?

It wasn't determined. It was asserted with minimal to no evidence. It's just a bunch of Freepers in an endless loop of mindless commenting, without anyone doing any research beyond reading a twitter or two.

There is a large group of Freepers who take glee in thinking that they are so clever in "naming the Fed", but mostly they are just calling people a nasty name -"glowie" "Fed" - and doing so incorrectly.

Of the two groups involved we know one of them has been highly infiltrated by the Feds. That would be The Proud Boys. At least I know that and other people who follow the news know it. But I guess no one making these accusation (including Victoria Taft, the author of the inuendo filled OP at PJ Media) bothered to watch the Proud Boy's trial in Washington D.C. Again, lazy, uninformed but highly-opinionated.

An aside: PJ Media was founded by citizen journalists who were appalled by how lazy the MSM had become, and how they just reported claims without putting any effort into validating them. Well, 30 years on sadly the conservative alternative media is doing the same damn thing. This whole topic is as fake as Dan Rather's reporting on George W. Bush's Air Force record. (ie: "Rathergate). That's really sad.

Here's what we learned at the Proud Boys trial:

New York Times:
In Proud Boys Jan. 6 Sedition Trial, F.B.I. Informants Abound

Over the past two months, one subject has repeatedly come up at the trial of five Proud Boys accused of sedition in connection with the storming of the Capitol: the unusual number of informants that the F.B.I. had in or near the group.

Even before the trial began, defense lawyers had suggested that the bureau had as many as eight informants in the far-right organization in the months surrounding Jan. 6, 2021. At least one of them — from the group’s chapter in Kansas City — was in the throng of Proud Boys that marched on the Capitol that day.

On Wednesday, new court papers revealed that there was yet another informant in the Proud Boys’ orbit, one who became uncommonly close to people involved in the sedition trial.

So, the Proud Boys are a pretty sad organization. They are riddled with Feds, and their activites were poorly designed, the group had terrible security and didn't think clearly about what they were doing.

As a result four Proud Boys were found guilty of "Seditious Conspiracy" and will be looking at some long sentences. (Trial was in May, sentencing for most of them hasn't happened yet.) Other Proud Boys who were part of the poorly conceived and ill-fated January 6 event, but were not charged with sedition, have received sentences in the 4 to 5 year range.

Even if you feel, as I do, that the prosecution of the Proud Boys and most other January 6 protesters is way over-the-top and illegitimate, that still doesn't change the fact that the Proud Boys set up a perfect trap for their own memeber, with 1/2 of the people attending being Feds.

That's all factual, facts that were established by trial testimony and evidence given under oath.

Yet: here we have our Freeper Experts insisting that the other guys are all Feds and "glowies.

Do they cite any evidence to support that claim? Only the weakest tiny bit. Essentially: "Well one guy looks like a picture of a college student. Might be the same guy. The guy's social media says he hopes to work for the government after leaving college."

And that's it. So, on the one hand: we have the drunken brawling society that is The Proud Boys, which has a long history of acting like fly paper to turn misfits into "right wing extremists with felony convictions".

And, on the other hand: we have -what exactly? The neo-Nazis! The Patriot Front! Who are actually all Feds! ...

Is any of that true? Well, actually no, it's not. Here's what is:

The original article by Victoria Taft (bless her heart) says that "when a group of black-bloc outfitted young men"... This is incorrect. The men were not in black-bloc, which is the uniform of antifa. Which is weird, she's a local (to Portland) reporter, hasn't see been watching the antifa riots, at least on local TV? The "black bloc" is all black, head to toe. Nothing but black, no jewelry or weird shoes, and black masks. A uniform.

The idea of black block, which began with anarchist protesters in Europe and gained traction in the Pacific Northwest in 1999 with the anti-WTO protests in Seattle (which turned into a riot), is to prevent police or intellegence gathering groups to make any identification of the people involved in their pre-meditated rioting.

What the anarchist / antifa "black blok" uniform looks like:

Portland antifa in "black block", their uniform for street thuggery

Victoria Taft is wrong. But if it's not the antifa, or people dressed like the antifa then it's the Patriot Front, right?

No, that's wrong also. The Patriot Front did borrow the tactic of "everyone dress the same and mask up" from the antifa. (All the Proud Boys who will be doing those long 4 year prison sentences in Club Fed probably wish they had been smart enough to dress the same and mask up on Jan. 6).

But, like the Portland antifa and anarchists the Patriot Front uniform is very specific, and the guys in the brawl with the Proud Boys were not in that uniform, either.

What the Patriot Front uniform looks like:

What the guys brawling with the Proud Boys looked like:

Members group pictured fighting with the Proud Boys in Oregon City last week.

So, we can also tell by close observation that group fighting with the Proud Boys and dressed in khaki and black are not the Patriot Front. Again, wrong uniform.

So who were the guys brawling with the Proud Boys, anyway?

The guys fighting with the Proud Boys in Oregon City are a local Portland area group called "Rose City Nationalists" also known as the "Rose City Nationalist Club". They have been around for about a year.

The leftwing alternative news site "The Young Turks" identified them as such in their report, where you can see the actual riot footage still (it's been deleted off most other sites):

YouTube: The Young Turks:Why Did Proud Boys UNMASK Nazis At A Pride Event?

So, who are the Rose City Nationalists, then? Are they all FBI agents?

Well, as you'd expect (if you live in Portland and follow the goings on of both sides of the violent street thug scene) the antifa have gathered a lot of information on them, and have put it on line.

A tactic of the antifa in Portland is to "dox" or identify by name anyone who opposes them or who they determine is "fascist" or "racist" or other isms that they oppose. Once they have doxxed a person they will engage in harrassment including vandalism of the persons house and car, street confrontations (many-on-one), and outright violence. This is why a group formed to oppose antifa in Portland might choose to wear masks.

It's not necessarily because they are glowies - it's because there are serious repercussions to opposing antifa publicly and on the streets in Portland, an evil city dominated by the far left with a government and justice system extremely sympathetic to antifa and hostile to anyone "on the right".

Andy Ngo got a concrete "milkshake" thrown at his head and almost died. Aaron "Jay" Danielson, a Trump supporter who attended a truck convoy Trump rally that ended in downtown Portland was shot and killed by antifa for no reason other than his right-wing (pro Trump) political position.

Here are some pictures of the Rose City Nationalists from their web site, as archived by their enemies the Portland antifa:

As you can see they favor the same "black sun" symbol that the Ukrainian Nazis also favor.

Looking at other social media sites of theirs you can find their self-professed ideology laid out. From their Gab site:

Rose City Nationalist Club @RoseCityNationalists Feb 26 · · Edited Northwest Nationalist Network (3N) is a collective of autonomous Nationalist groups based in the Pacific Northwest. United under the Black Sun Tri-Color, these groups will work together to foster White unity and re-instill a sense of pride and belonging in Our People. For too long, the leftist establishment here in the PNW has enjoyed little to no resistance. Antifascists do the dirty work of the establishment and commit crime with impunity. Our streets are adorned with monuments to anti-White hatred and sexual degeneracy while even the most milquetoast of Nationalist statements are suppressed by the government and it’s cronies.

With the formation of 3N, we will now begin to see widespread and coordinated efforts to combat the establishment’s anti-White agenda. In time, the PNW will no longer be synonymous with the BLM riots in Portland. Rather, the PNW will be seen as a bastion of hope for Our People. We will take back what is rightfully our’s. We will have our home again.

In summary: The people the proud boys were fighting with were not the Patriot Front (which is not active in the Portland area), but rather a different group the Rose City Nationalists. They are as related as Free Republic and Blaze Media.

The group is a self-avowed White Nationalist group, who use iconography similar to other fascist and neo-Nazi groups including the black sun and the roman salute. Close enough for the term NeoNazi to be used accurately? Yes.

Is there any evidence that all these people are really FBI agents?

No. Looking at their web pages, it's pretty obvious that it's a small group and they are putting a lot of time into their activities.

It's not well known outside of the area, but Portland and the I-5 corridor is not only the hotspot for far left antifa and anarchists but also has a very active White Nationalist movement. There has been a plan put forward in the 1970s to make Washington, Oregon and Idaho a white-only ethnostate. There have been people organized around that idea or plan ever since (so, 50 years). It seemed to have died out, but was reanimated in the last 10 years via sites like Redit and 8chan, and is once again attracting disaffected white nationalists to move to the area in hopes of one day effecting their revolution.

It's pretty clear that this is who these guys are. Not FBI agents or trainees, as keeps being said.

You're taking antifa's word that's who these guys are and how do you know that they're not fed run?

You're doing what you're accusing others of.

You have no proof that's who they are and that they're not fed run.

Congratulations! With your insults, illogic, poor reasoning, and intense manipulative tone, you have certainly convinced me YOU are a fed.

You sound exactly like the phony “doctors” who showed up during covid, and who never returned to apologize for how wrong they were.
