He was just trying to figure out which direction to get off the stage and he needed a little intervention. His down stretched hands are a body language that he’s really got no idea what is the next step. He wasn’t making any moves toward the child, it just happened to be in the general direction of the dump truck he was following. It’s still not a good look. He’s gotta know which direction is the exit for heaven sake!

That's the way I saw it also. I'm not sure he was even aware that the baby was there. I think he was trying to find his way off the stage, saw a couple of people standing there, and thought to himself "what do I do now?" The aide then had to come over and steer him in the right direction.
