Back during the last solar eclipse over the continental United States in 2017, grid operators in California had to make adjustments to the electricity grid to account from the lost solar power during the 90 minutes or so that the eclipse dimmed sunlight in California. Such is the sensitivity of solar power to clouds and other obstructions such as routine dust, winter snow, and . . . forest fire smoke. The northeast is learning this right now amidst the smoke plume blowing down from Canada.

If I still owned my sail boat it would have solar. wind, water towed generator, and 120 gallons of fuel for my Diesel
engine.
Most of the time I could sail anywhere if schedules permitted.
But at the very end That Diesel motor was used to meet a schedule.
Alternate energy and battery technology just aren’t there yet for a JIT world. No matter how much ECO nuts and Democrats want it.
Another good reason for forget about solar panels for a reliable power source. “Green power” sources should be alloted only for charging EVs.
