Attack On Europe: Documenting Russian Equipment Losses During The 2022 Russian Invasion Of Ukraine
ORYX ^ | Since February 24, 2022 and daily | ORYX

Posted on 06/02/2023 6:08:02 AM PDT by SpeedyInTexas

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Small arms, ATGMs, MANPADS, loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles, trailers and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. Many of the entries listed as 'abandoned' will likely end up captured or destroyed. Similarly, some of the captured equipment might be destroyed if it can't be recovered. When the origin of a piece of equipment can't be established, it is not included in the list. The Soviet flag is used when the equipment in question was produced prior to 1991. This list is constantly updated as additional footage becomes available.

‘Exclusive: US seeking explosives in Japan for Ukraine artillery shells”

“The United States is seeking to secure supplies of TNT in Japan for 155mm artillery shells, as Washington rushes weapons and ammunition to Ukraine for a counteroffensive against Russian forces, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

For war-renouncing Japan, any procurement would test its willingness to court controversy to help Kyiv because export rules ban Japanese companies from selling lethal items overseas, such as the howitzer shells that Ukraine fires daily at Russian units occupying its southeastern regions.

Nonetheless, the allies appear to have found a workaround to enable the TNT sale amid global shortages of munitions.

“There is a way for the United States to buy explosives from Japan,” one of the people with knowledge of discussions on the matter in Japan told Reuters on the condition of anonymity, citing the issue’s sensitivity.

Export restrictions for dual-use products or equipment sold commercially are less stringent than for items with a purely military purpose, which is why the U.S. can buy Panasonic Toughbook laptops for its military.

Tokyo, which hosted U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin this week, has told the U.S. government it will allow the sale of industrial TNT because the explosive is not a military-use-only product, the other source said.”

The Russian military, the second largest military in the world, may not be what it looks like. Lies and systematic corruptions may in fact have dragged Russia into this war with Ukraine, which has been heavily backed up by the US and NATO. We will present the evidence, you make your own decision, because the Russian Army, is not what you think.

Designed to support the U.S. Army Captains Career Course, “Understanding Combined Arms Warfare” defines and outlines the important aspects of modern combined arms operations. This is not a complete history of combined arms warfare. It is intended to highlight the most important aspects of the subject.

The beginning of the documentary establishes a common understanding of combined arms warfare by discussing doctrinal and equipment developments in World War I. The second part compares the development of French and German Army mechanization during the interwar period and describes how each country fared during the Battle of France in 1940. The film concludes by showing how the United States applied combined arms operations in the European Theater in World War II.

——> U.S. Getting More Gepard Air Defense Vehicles For Ukraine From Jordan
The additional Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns for Ukraine look to be ex-Dutch versions purchased from Jordan.
https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/u-s-getting-more-gepard-air-defense-vehicles-for-ukraine-from-jordan

Excerpts:
The U.S. Army has awarded a Florida-based company a contract worth just over $118 million to supply additional German-made Gepard self-propelled 35mm anti-aircraft guns to the Ukrainian military. The Gepards in question look to be ex-Dutch variants that were then sold to Jordan around a decade ago.

The new U.S. purchase of the Gepards is being funded through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), which was established prior to Russia’s all-out invasion of Ukraine.

It is unclear how many Gepards are being purchased for Ukraine through the U.S. Army contract or when they might arrive in that country. The contract notice doesn’t explicitly say where the vehicles are coming from, but does say that the “work will be performed in Amman, Jordan, with an estimated completion date of May 30, 2024.”

Dutch Gepards differ from the variants that were produced during the Cold War for what was then the West German military in their radar fit. The Dutch version has an X-band search radar and a tracking radar that can operate in the X and Ka bands. The German variant has an S-band search radar and a Ku-band tracking radar. The different radars make the two types visually distinct.

https://www.thedrive.com/uploads/2023/05/01/dutch-gepard-spaag.jpg?auto=webp&optimize=high&quality=70&width=960

Beyond all this, the U.S. Army’s use of USAI funding to acquire Gepards from a third party highlights the U.S. military’s own limited selection of short-range air defense (SHORAD) assets at present. The U.S. military’s SHORAD capabilities atrophied in the years following the end of the Cold War amid the belief that future conflicts that American forces were likely to find themselves in would be very unlikely to feature aerial threats

A return to great-power competition against near-peer nations like China and Russia, together with the explosion in the use of drones, even among non-state actors like terrorist groups and criminal organizations, has led to a reversal in U.S. attitude when it comes to SHORAD.

At the same time, the U.S. military continues to play catchup in trying to reconstitute these capabilities. In 2021, the U.S. Army just began fielding its first new mobile SHORAD system, the Maneuver Short Range Air Defense (M-SHORAD) vehicle based on the 8x8 Stryker, in decades. M-SHORADs are replacing aging Humvee-based Avenger air defense systems, some of which are also now being sent to Ukraine.

The conflict in Ukraine has only underscored the value of SHORAD systems, even like the Gepard, which until recently, was largely sidelined as a Cold War relic.

——> Russia Claims It Foiled Tank-Backed Incursion Across Its Border
This was the second incursion operation Russia says it has fought off in just over a week, but still there was damage within its own borders.

Excerpts:
The partisans - the far-right Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK) and the Freedom For Russia Legion - claimed as of Thursday afternoon local time that they still occupied parts of the region, destroyed several Russian artillery and mortar systems and captured another armored vehicle.

Andriy Chernyak, an official from Ukraine’s military intelligence directorate, GUR: Ukraine’s military was not directly involved in the attack, suggesting that it was the Russians’ own initiative. “They are rebelling,” he said.

While it is unknown just how deeply Ukraine is involved in these incursions, speculation goes far beyond just mere communications.

After the May 22 incursion, questions were raised about whether the groups used U.S.-provided equipment inside Russia. The White House and Pentagon are investigating, saying that U.S. equipment is not supposed to be used inside Russia. The two groups claimed they captured the vehicles from Russians, who captured them from Ukrainians.

And during his interview with Financial Times, Chernyak denied having supplied the militias with any equipment. All western weaponry obtained by the Ukrainian armed forces remains “under . . . the toughest control,” he said.

[ Slaughter House | Russian Herd Instinct Was Exploited. All Shelters Destroyed ]

••Day 463: Jun 01

Today the biggest news once again comes from the territory of the Russian Federation, namely, from the Belgorod region.

Here, the Freedom of Russia Legion and Russian Volunteer Corps conducted another operation to draw Russian attention and resources to the northern front.

Both detachments fully consist of Russian citizens who are against the current Russian government.

These people reportedly sought and were granted temporary shelter in Ukraine because their current military objectives aligned with Ukrainian ones.

The first target of the insurgent forces became a Russian Control Point on the border.

Prior to the attack, the insurgents conducted several waves of drone and artillery strikes to undermine Russian defense.

Geolocated footage shows how one drone targeted a group of people who were controlling the point.

Later it turned out that the eliminated personnel belonged to the Russian Federal Security Service, which is not surprising because, as mentioned last time, due to the lack of regular forces in the region, Russians deployed to the border all types of Rapid Deployment Forces.

After conducting extensive artillery preparation on the first and second lines of defense, the insurgents launched a ground assault under continuous cover from artillery.

Russian sources reported that several small squads reinforced with one tank tried to attack the Control Point, which was protected by 20 border guards and 20 conscripts.

This is interesting because it indicates that the Federal Security Forces decided to retreat after at least one of their personnel was killed in a drone attack.

Simultaneously, the insurgents opened a second line of attack toward Tavolzhanka.

Russian sources reported that 1 motorized rifle company assaulted the outskirts of the settlement.

The footage confirms that there was a second vector of attack because there is only one place in this region where a highway goes through a forest.

Additional footage released by the Freedom of Russia Legion also confirms that there were active engagements between the insurgent and Russian forces.

The Russian Ministry of Defense released a statement, where they claimed that this is where the incursions ended.

Russian forces reportedly unleashed their aviation and artillery, conducted 11 airstrikes, 77 artillery strikes, and 2 thermobaric strikes, and destroyed the enemy on the approaches to the settlements.

The Ministry of Defense also highlighted that the Federal Security Services played a major
role in repelling this attack, even though other Russian sources claimed that only border
guards and conscripts took the hit.

However, other combat footage shows that the insurgents managed to breach the first line of defense.

The drone footage shows that Russian forces near Tavolzhanka were destroyed by artillery fire.

After that, several pickups moved north along the western part of Tavolzhanka, while simultaneously, there was a strike on the critical energy infrastructure in the eastern part of the settlement.

When it comes to the Control Point, the drone footage showed that insurgents destroyed plenty of Russian equipment, 2 km north of the Control Point, namely, 1 mortar system Tyulpan, 1 truck with ammunition, and 1 armored fighting vehicle.

Ukrainian sources reported that Russians retreated to Shebekino, where they waited for reinforcements.

Local residents also noticed several drones operating above the town.

One of the insurgent detachments, namely, the Russian Volunteer Corps, reported that they saw how police and other rapid-deployment forces went hiding in the only buildings they had access to, in particular, the police station, local administration building, and some warehouses that were already used for military purposes.

Later, the insurgents released footage showing the aftermath of a strike on the police station in the northern part of the town, the building of the regional administration in the central part of the town, and also facilities belonging to the factory Monocrystal in the southeastern part of the town.

Some sources reported that the artillery hit a fuel storage facility, which caused a huge fire.

After successfully folding Russians forces into distinct areas, and after hitting these areas of forces concentrations with artillery fire and emptying the reserves for the protection of the border, the insurgent forces reportedly called their task completed and timely withdrew, avoiding the engagement with the reinforcements that were heading towards the city.
