“1/X- Today is Memorial Day. Since 24FEB2022, nineteen Americans (+ more unconfirmed) have given their lives in defense of Ukrainian democracy and Europe. They are all true American Heroes.”
“2/X These nineteen men and all the others I served with over the last year are the Greatest Generation in my eyes. These men VOLUNTEERED to fight the Russians against overwhelming odds. There is nothing more American than defending the oppressed and standing up to bullies.“
“3/X They left their families and jobs behind and bought or borrowed equipment. They received no marching orders or training for a near-peer conventional war. But still, they answered democracy's call to arms to fight against fascism once again on the march in Europe.”
“4/X When I think about these nineteen men and those who served to my left and right, I am reminded of a Dick Winters quote in which his grandson asks "Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?" Winters replies, "No, but I served in a company of heroes."”
“5/X These men are the antithesis of the Neville Chamberlains of the world. In the West, where we are increasingly paralyzed by overanalysis, risk assessments, and a need for more data to make "informed" decisions -- these men stood up and said "F*** no snake. Not today Ivan."”
“6/X I commend their bravery. I applaud their courage. The world is truly a lesser place without them here. Today, on Memorial Day, we should honor these nineteen men and their sacrifices. They have not and will not be in vain. Freedom and Democracy are on the march.”
