Everything in this Alinky manual is both a perversion of truth and nearly copied from the tips Screwtape is given from his uncle.
The repeated one here is to attack sinners for noticing sin. You’re not perfect, and he’s not perfect, so you can’t criticize my sin. Ha ha. Of course that’s the opposite of the truth. Didn’t work for Adam when he blamed Eve and doesn’t work here. The correct response is to recognize the problem and repent, and then also help each other.
The other repeated path to perdition is to try and bind God. Well, you’re baptized, so the fact that you wallow in sin, take Pride in it, and lead others into your misery is ok. Really, sure, as soon as the water hit you God was powerless no matter how you spent your life in utter rebellion against Him.
(This is why magicians are in trouble; they think they can control God and not surrender to Him — in the end all the other sins are in some form or another Pride).
Wormwood is the nephew. Screwtape the uncle.
CS Lewis’ “The Great Divorce” is another great read.
