Both sides are downplaying the counter-offensive. This way there is only upside after it.
Russia is saying they expect Ukraine to do very well in the counter-offensive. And not talk it down before it begins. This way if if fizzles out it was the great Russian Military that defeated it.
Same for the West. They are downplaying it because if it does well then it’s the great western weapons that did it and now we need to send more to finish it. Or if it does bad, we didn’t send them enough weapons we need to send them more.
See there is no downside after telling everyone not to expect much.

This is interesting. Russia is writing propaganda excuses in advance for losing in Ukraine. The English translation is not very good, but it’s still telling.

This is a fascinating detailed report of actual conditions by disillusioned Russians. The actual state of the FSB is especially interesting. This post is well worth passing on to your pro Ukraine friends and those who need a bit of encouragement.
Earlier this evening I saw a news crawl about a Russian freight training being derailed near the Ukraine border and being on fire. Does anyone have more information on this story or a good link to post here or on the Search bar for both Russia snd for Ukraine?
I decided to check this one out myself. There are several Google posts about the train derailed by explosives. The aljazeera link below includes a nice map showing the location in Russia about equidistant from Ukraine and Belarus.
This next link reports another recent train derailment with fire also in the Bryansk region but closer to Ukraine. There is also a second link at this one, perhaps with photo of the other derailment.
