I never felt the way KISS dressed and made themselves look had anything to do with sexual orientation etc. It was a gimmick. A very successful gimmick at that. Their lyrics definitely were testosterone driven for the most part.

Yes, I remember that KISS was decidedly testosterone driven in their style and lyrics. Nothing “fem” at all about them. In fact, I believe some of their power ballads at the time such as “Beth” and “Hard Luck Woman” were done in part to help bring in a female fan base, as you saw mostly guys at their shows.

The same can be said of the whole "Hair Metal" scene. The big hair and spandex was never meant to be, nor was it interpreted as, an attempt to look feminine.
