On May 1, 2020, I joined a protest at the Huntington Beach pier in Southern California. I liked the idea that we were changing May Day from a pro-slavery fête to a clamor for freedom. Many protests were to follow, including a huge New Years Eve rally at the pier that took place in the face of a 9 PM curfew imposed by Governor Gavin Newsom.
Those days should not be forgotten.
