The downward spiral has reached critical mass. Following the Trump endorsement by Florida Congressman Byron Douglas [See Here], Team Meatball is triggered. Ron DeSantis has begun calling Florida Republican congressional reps, begging them not to endorse President Trump.
You can almost see the cheese arriving to complement the whine.
(Via NBC) Gov. Ron DeSantis’ political operation has started calling Republican members of the Florida congressional delegation in an effort to consolidate support after four members publicly backed Donald Trump in his 2024 presidential bid.
Sources with four of the six members contacted by DeSantis’ team shared the outreach with NBC News; each requested anonymity to confirm the calls.
As Trump continues to lead in the polls for the GOP presidential nomination, the governor is trying to stop defections in his own backyard ahead of his expected run. DeSantis currently has no endorsements from the state delegation.
The efforts by the governor’s team started after Trump picked up the backing of Rep. Byron Donalds, who has been a DeSantis ally. The earlier three endorsements were from Reps. Anna Paulina Luna, Matt Gaetz and Cory Mills, who are vocal Trump boosters and whose support wasn’t surprising.
Since Donalds came out for Trump, DeSantis’ team has called at least six members of Florida’s congressional delegation, asking that they hold off on making any endorsements in the near future. The members called by DeSantis’ team are: Reps. Aaron Bean, Vern Buchanan, Kat Cammack, Mario Diaz-Balart, Laurel Lee and Greg Steube.
Ryan Tyson, a longtime GOP pollster and mainstay in DeSantis’ political orbit, has led the effort. Tyson has initiated the calls, reaching out to schedule a later call between the member of Congress and DeSantis himself.
“There is clearly some angst from the DeSantis camp that so many members of the state’s congressional delegation are throwing their support behind Trump,” said a GOP consultant for one of the members contacted by the governor’s team. “Gaetz going with Trump is one thing, but Byron’s endorsement of the former president undoubtedly rattled some cages.” (read more)
“DeSantis currently has NO ENDORSEMENTS from the Florida delegation“…. Readers, if you are a registered voter in Florida, you know what to do. Call your congressman or congresswoman and tell them your expectation, in advance of DeSantis calling them and asking for an endorsement.
Let the GOP representatives know your expectation, while simultaneously delivering a death blow to the influence of Wall Street, multinational corporations, billionaire influence peddlers and the professional political class. They have dumped $500+ million into DeSantis… Make it worthless!
DeSantis ran to be governor of Florida. Make him live up to that expectation.
The headline makes me not want to read the story.
The consequences of the upcoming election are far more important than any one politician’s political future.
Trump is our weapon.
Ron has learned the hard way about who to trust.
He needs to wait until 2028, when all of his RINO endorsements herd themselves in another direction.
lol.
I love DeSantis as my governor and he’d be an amazing president, but he just SUCKS at campaigning... so bad.
He needs another 4 years in the minors. Just not ready and the math says he *cannot beat Trump.
Did he ever even announce his candidacy? This obsession with bashing Desantis is strange to me. People on FR attack him more than the Democrats by 10 fold. Weird. Some people have TDS, and now apparently some people have DDS.
Ron DeSantis is not part of the plan for the final takedown of the deep state which is currently underway. He apparently still hasn’t gotten the message but he will.
“This obsession with bashing Desantis is strange to me”
Your not alone......prepare to be attacked
I’m a HUGE fan of DeSantis - but, sorry, he’s doing this to himself.
The smartest thing he could have done was stay out and keep looking good. Instead he goes to Iowa etc., making mistakes and bringing his brand down. The way he handled the Bragg circus and other issies has dumb and awkward. Unforced errors and bad consultation.
Someone on his side needs to do some math - he CANNOT overcome Trump for the nomination.
If, as you infer, he’s not running at all, then all of this was just a waste of time and tactical stupidity on his and his people’s part.
.
"Daddy, why does Mickey have those huge ears?"
"To hide the horns, honey..."
.
LOL
Has DeSantis declared his candidacy yet?
The headline made me want to read the story!
I appreciate DeSantis as Governor……
….no way Jose do I support him as President.
But he's done enough to keep his name out there in case anything happens to Trump. IMHO it's wise to keep one's options open, particularly when the front-runner is in his 70's and the unthinkable isn't so far-fetched.
If he wants endorsements, DeSantis is actually going to have to declare his candidacy.
ron should watch and learn this go round and perhaps even join up as VP candidate ...
a miserably failed primary campaign does nothing but diminish his gravitas, particularly when it fails in such a way that exposes his weaknesses, allows the fascist media to pile on, promotes the buffoonery of cheer-leading ultra-RINOs and other assorted anybody-but-Trumpers, displays the ignominy of erstwhile allies deserting him, leads to more flip-flopping, and accumulates other forced and unforced errors ...
“he was good on the Moral issues”
And even then, he was mostly just pretending.
On Free Republic, every Republican besides Trump is criticized as being too liberal , or has compromised conservative values, or is a RINO, or is a deep State actor.
Some people on this site, even say they would vote for a Democrat rather than certain Republicans, because such Republicans are too liberal or RINO, etc.
