Trump will go to New York, so nothing DeSantis does matter.

New York is gonna file charges against the governor of Florida?

With the IRS showing up on Matt Taibi's door the same day he is in front of Congress, can you rule anything out?

Also, you missed the /s at the end of my post.

About time.

Should have been the first thing out of his mouth.

He’s learning.

No it’s not given DeSantis’ earlier statements on this sordid affair.

Trump was not fleeing from justice when he came to Florida.

The extradition clause applies to persons who have fled from justice.

No, I understood the sarcasm and overall derision of them in your post and I enjoyed it.

We live in interesting times.

Sure - but DeSantis, since all he’s doing is talking the talk - could talk bigger and bolder.

Since it’s just talk, what he said is good enough.

My understanding is if someone is charged in another state that state can request extradition of the accused. They can’t just go in and take him. If the person goes voluntarily there is no need for extradition. But if that person doesn’t go the state can request extradition and the state can assist or reject. Governer destantis has chosen a side.

Good for Ron, he could have said he was unknowing again.

However, President Trump would not resist his chance in court. He’s going to be our 47th President and he can’t do that hiding out in Florida, now can he.

This is the kind of stuff that does make DeSantis look like a typical politician - he has no authority to interfere with this one way or the other.

It’s pure political speak because he has no authority to do anything with it one way or the other. So there nothing bold about saying anything at all - “bigger and bolder” would be even more political speak.

Yeah he does - he could say that the state would actively protect Trump from extradition, including against the fed.

This entire statement was just lip service.

He can’t leave Florida, whether or not DeSantis fights extradition.

I think as a practical matter, Trump can travel to any other state with a GOP governor, as under the 14th amendment to the US Constitution it is the governor of the state where the indicted person is located who has to go along with extradition in order to make it happen.

I don’t think Trump can trust the Secret Service any more, as they answer to Biden, not to Trump. De Santis will have to assign Florida Highway Patrol to protect Trump from being kidnapped and taken to New York against his will.

Trump is not going to run away or avoid this. Trump said long ago, he’d turn himself in or tell them where to come get him.

This is a DeSantis stunt.

“you’re aware NY can send their own people to arrest Trump, right?”

Uh... no. No, they can’t. That’s beyond ridiculous.

NY law enforcement have zero authority in any other state, including Florida.
