If not for years of dem/deep state Russia!, Russia!, Russia!, lies to take down Trump, the US actually has more common interests with Russia than not. The support for Ukraine seems to be pre-programmed in the US bureaucracies, the Pentagon, CIA and the State Department, a leftover of the Cold War “deep state”.
Which is a good thing, as far as it goes. The consistency of US policy was a great strength during the Cold War.
