My wife was a paraprofessional for 20 years. In that time frame, she saw changes at her school not only in staff, but also in administration, student population, and student attitudes. All in a downward spiral.
I’m so glad we are both retired now- her especially, because she would come home and tell me about the kids giving her less respect, some openly hostile towards authority, and there was nothing she or any of the staff could do about it. Because of the lowering of disciplinary standards, their hands were pretty much tied.
I’m March of 2020, because of COVID, they closed the schools in the district and she came home. She put in her notice in June, and in July of 2020 she officially retired. And so did I.
I showed her this story, and she was horrified. Thank God she’s outta there.
It will be interesting to see what happens to this 6’6 punk.
