I know. I started smoking in the early 60’s - back when doctor’s had ashtrays in their offices for the comfort of their smoking patients and elevators had built in ashtrays too.

My dad keeled over face first into his ham sandwich he was having for lunch. No pain. No fear. Just gone. We should all be so lucky.

My father in law, a smoker, died 10 years younger than my dad, from emphysema, slowly and painfully.

For those that weren't in the military, smokers got smoke breaks. Nonsmokers did not get breaks. Cigarettes were 17 cents a pack on my ship. Almost everybody smoked. The same is true for coffee.

Later in life, I had to stop frequenting the American Legion hall because of the smog. Great guys but unbearable atmosphere. Does anyone know if they still smoke at the Legion?

On the other hand, I appreciate smokers. They pay high taxes that I don't have to pay and they don't create a burden on Medicare or Social Security. So... Thanks for smoking but for your own sake, please stop.

Not me. Sitting on an airplane or in a restaurant filled with smoke was disgusting. Sure I am a hypocrite for enjoying smoke free establishments.
