Because he is a fellow Republican of some stature in the party. Because he has national political aspirations and as soon as they take care of President Trump they will be setting their sights on Gov. DeSantis.
All Gov. DeSantis had to say is that "the Federal Government needs to stop its witch hunt against Republicans. Especially when President Biden's son has more public evidence of illicit dealings with China, which truly deserves a special prosecutor".
He doesn't have to mention President Trump by name.
Big miss no other way to look at it. Will it hurt him. Probably not. If President Trump survives he is likely fairly wounded going into the Primaries. But it does imply that DeSantis is making a political calculation for himself as opposed to what is good for the US in general not to mention his own party.
