Another tea leaf reader. Splitting the R vote for Speaker gives it to Pelosi. That is the opposite of good. To get rid of McCarthy required a stampede behind one person (Jim Jeffords would be my pick).

Just one problem with that theory. Trump endorsed McCarthy for Speaker before the election, when everyone still expected the GOP to have a huge majority in the House. You can't explain Trump's endorsement as "reading tea leaves".

This conversation brings into focus something Pelosi said today when asked about the speakers position…

“I may not always have power, but I will always have influence”

Somehow Pelosi has her hands in this.

No matter the size of the R majority, the theory still holds. Split the R vote and D's vote in Pelosi. Science.
