A new body cam footage released by Arizona authorities shows a male suspect being shot to death after pointing a handgun at a police dog’s head. The incident occurred on August 25 in Tucson, Arizona.
Exactly. Regardless of the law that makes police K-9s police officers if you’re using a firearm in a threatening manner in the presence of cops they’re going to shoot you and they should.
You could be threatening to shoot a dumpster and that would be enough. Neither a cop nor a citizen should wait to see what the gun waver decides to shoot next.
And...why would you not?
This guy was a career felon, was doing prison time when he was nineteen and several times afterward. No loss here.
Similar to the Bruno the Anaheim PD K-9 situation in 2014. Career criminal on parole being chased, wounds Bruno, and police responded with 30 rounds into the thug. Bruno survives but has to retire and dies two years later attributed to the wound.
If one watches the entire video the perp can be seen sweeping his pistol around in the direction of ALL of the cops, not just the K-9. This is a story with a happy ending.

I am glad the dog is okay.
That is a logic fail. An officer can only be human.
Who’s a good boy, Kiro? You’re good boy! Give that hound a steak for a job well done
Every police K9 is an officer of that department, and while policy regarding killing or assaulting a police K9 carries lesser legal penalties and consequences than killing a human officer, there isn’t a police commission in this country that would punish an officer killing a subject who was pointing a gun at a K9 officer.

He had his gun out before the fur missile got to him. He was gonna get capped either way.
I love a happy ending.
Correct
No
It should be. My dogs are part of my family. I might instinctively shoot someone pointing a gun at one of them if I had a gun in my hands at the time. One never knows for sure until they are in that position. I bet most people would who care about their dogs/cats/horses/etc at a deep level. You protect your own the best you can.
When I hear about cops shooting dogs just because they are barking it makes my blood boil.
I know you've been informed the K-9 isn't just a dog; he's part of the LEO family. An officer in his own right.
What is an officer shoots YOUR dog for no reason?
Is that a capital offense?

Exactly how I see it! In fact, if an order to drop a firearm isn’t immediately obeyed that should be sufficient grounds for the police to use deadly force. IMMEDIATELY!

I’d be surprised to learn that happens very often, but when it does there should be harsh consequences for the shooter.
It would be sufficient grounds for me to shoot and I might not give them an order to drop it.
My focus would be on shot placement.
Good ending.
Thanks for sharing it.

I still think the doggie is an officer
